I got this backpack primarily for day hiking and for travel -- the carry-on that fits under the seat. I checked out a lot of backpacks before picking this one, and it was a good choice. I just made my first coast-to-coast flight with my roll-aboard in the overhead bin and the Yavapai under the seat and it worked like a charm. In the backpack I had a jacket, two hardcover books, cell phone, cell phone charger, a couple of power bars, keys, eye drops, sunglasses in a hard case, a protein shake mixer and 6 packets of MetRx. It all fit without a stretch although it was good to have the compression straps. It was comfortable to wear. The only thing that keeps it from being 5 stars is the lack of a compartment on the bottom of the backpack, but if it had that, it might not fit under the seat."..."  Read more

I got this backpack as a way to carry items to change into after a workout and this has been a terrific addition to my gear. The absolute best part is the bottom pocket that I can stick my sneakers or cycling shoes into so that they are nowhere near my clothes. The backpack expands so you can fit quite a bit of gear into it and still be comfortable. The padding on the back is think and soft so that it does not press right against your back. I usually order my camping gear online from Campmor. In fact, I did order this item from them online, only to learn a week later via telephone that it was "out of stock". Imagine my surprise when I discovered this specialty item on the J.C. Penney web site. The quality of this item was already known to me beforehand, but the great service and price was a really big surprise. I read somewhere that a former executive at Apple was now taking charge at J.C. Penney. Hope it proves a win-win-win for the company, its employees and its customers. If you continue to give your customers "good deals" and "great service", you will win our loyalty and business.
