Headboards

We are very happy with this headboard, especially for the price. It took us about 3 hrs to assemble. It's beautiful in our room and has so much space. We have assembled a fair amount of RTA furniture in our time. We had no trouble with the instructions on this item. [...]It's not completely out of the question that one person could assemble alone; but you should have two people working together. One person can work ahead on certain steps to prep the panels for the other person.The "complaints" I have would be:1. There's one step where you attach two L-brackets. We did not find pre-drilled pilot holes to tell us EXACTLY where to put those brackets. We originally spaced them too far apart and then noticed they didnt pull the front panel flush as they should have. So we had to take them out and put them on again. It was not easy and took a lot of time to deal with these brackets. It was one step in the instructions that said it would take 2 minutes but it took more like 45. Maybe we missed the pilot holes but I dont think so because we looked closely.2. There are no holes cut in the back panel that you can put electrical cords through. This seems to be common on almost all RTA headboards recently (this king size one is the fourth one we have purchased since 2007) and I dont know why. Where is the cord for your alarm clock supposed to go? On other units we purchased, we used a keyhole drill bit to cut our own holes. On this unit, we had an innovative brainstorm and decided to LEAVE OFF THE BACK PANEL COMPLETELY. It looks GREAT this way because we just painted our walls and you see the nice color of the wall in the squares of the headboard and there is no trouble with cords.3. When we put the top panel on, we could not get the black pegs to push down flat into the center upright panels. You cant tell because of the trim piece on the front, but it was annoying that even when my husband sat on it, the panels wouldnt snap together as they should. I dont know what causes this - some error we made or the holes not drilled right, etc.Other notes:1. You should take the time to sort and count all the pieces before beginning. It really helps - not just for this item - you should always do that when assembling anything.2. From our experience with the three other RTA headboards we have (another Prepac and two SouthShore) you definitely CANNOT let water stand on the surface. If you're in the habit as we are of having a cup of water by your bedside, you need to keep the cup on a plastic tray or coaster or something like that. Continuous contact with water/moisture will bubble and degrade the surface.3. Do heed the warning in the instructions to not pound the black pegs in too deep or they will crack the top surface of the headboard. We made that mistake on the white Prepac headboard we own, so we were very careful with this new Cherry one when we did the pegs.In closing, we would recommend this headboard. I think this headboard is great for the price. Even though the easy directions say to have 2 people to put it together, I did it by myself, but I did wait for my husband to get home to help me attach it to the metal bed frame. There wasn't any bolts included to do that. Just wood screws were included to attach to a wood frame. But my husband had some bolts and it looks great. I don't think the headboard will be something that will last a lifetime but I didn't think it would considering the price. If it lasts a couple of years, I'll be happy. I would have ordered the nightstands that match but they aren't tall enough for my mattress."..."  Read more

My husband and I had been shopping for a bed for a few weeks when he found this headboard and decided that he wanted this one and nothing else. I was kinda iffy on purchasing it due to another review but decided to give it a shot. Im extremely happy with this buy. We ordered a bedframe from another store to go with it and they fit together great. When we took the peices out of the box they were dusty so we dusted them off before we even began assembly. Under 'Cons' I wrote possible missing parts but that could go for the frame as well. When we put the headboard and frame together we realized that no one included any hardware to connect them. We ended up having to goto the hardware store twice, bc the first time we thought we could eye ball it but obviously couldnt(not there fault we made two trips). Assembly: Let me say first that my husband and I are HORRIBLE that putting things together. The directions were pretty easy to follow. We were stuck on one particular step for a long time because we had the board upside down and backwards. Putting the headboard and frame together(not including trips to the store) took about 2 hours for both. The hardware for the headboard is pretty darn nifty and seems like it will hold up for a long time. In the end we love the bed and couldnt be happier. Its very sleek looking. Beautiful headboard for the price. The color was slightly off from the photo on the website, it looks more black in my bedroom than an espresso color. [...].It only took about 20 minutes to assemble with my husband. You WILL need a power drill for the screws. It did not come with bolts to attach it to the headboard. We used 5/16" x 1 3/4" hex bolts and they worked great!Whats really great about this headboard is you can decide if you want it taller or not.
