David Podsiadlo David studied Industrial Design before contributing to a number of architectural and interior design firms in Toronto. In 1999 he co-founded Stylegarage in the city's West Queen West neighborhood, which served as a retail outlet for his furniture designs, emphasizing raw materials, clean lines, and basic forms. After quickly gaining local notoriety for his contemporary, unfussy approach to furniture, David and his partners launched Gus* in 2001, taking his designs to a North American market and earning the "Best New Collection" distinction at the 2001 International Gift Fair in Manhattan. Collecting accolades ever since, David continues to serve as partner and Lead Designer at Gus*
With classic Gus* features like a stainless steel base and compact frame, the Spencer Sofa has been updated with an inset style base and blind-tufting on the seat and back cushions. The sofa also features unique square side cushions and is available in two fabric options. A matching chair is available separately. Note: Any orders to Canada will not be processed. Looks Great. Is Comfortable. This sofa looks great and is comfortable. Those are the key features in a couch for me. One complaint is that the square cushions aren't as functional as I'd like. They aren't rigid enough to use as a surface or trust that the remote will stay on it. The clean lines are great and the couch is firm but comfortable to sit on. |

Worth the wait! My husband and I typically don't like sitting on sofas or couches because they are often soft with puffy pillows that you constantly have to adjust for comfort and looks. Hate that! I also can't stand getting wedged in the cracks of the sofa cushions and not being able to sit "Indian-style" because a sofa isn't deep enough. For this reason, and the fact that in an Brooklyn 1 bedroom apartment you need a guest bed, we've always had a high end futon as our couch. Until now...Having left NYC for greener pastures, and 3 more bedrooms, we needed to get a "real" sofa for our primary living space. (Our beloved and trusty futon has its place on the garden floor of our home now.) Enter The Spencer Sofa by Gus Modern. Tailored lines with one firm bottom cushion and one firm back cushion, rich dark indigo tweed fabric which is simply stunning, a very deep bench with lots of legroom and width for sitting every which way, and the perfect back height to support your shoulders. Love, love, love.If you like firm support, with a mid-century modern edge, I hardly think you can go wrong here.[...] Aces! |
