People in the late 1800's were much like we are today. Folks needed their rest after a long day's work. Good sleep has always been the goal for centuries. But a really comfortable mattress? That was a fairly novel idea back in times when mattresses were mostly known as "lumpy". Gold Bond changed that standard, and started a future filled with happy, well-rested customers.
By the end of World War II, Gold Bond was delivering mattresses throughout the East, adding prestigious establishments, leading universities and posh hotels to their clientele. By then, the company had been blending its own cotton for 30 years and a "GOLD BOND" mattress had become an essential bedroom centerpiece. The quality was obvious to fussy homemakers. The comfort was welcomed by weary executives and hardworking tradesmen.
In time the company's contract and retail business continued to grow. People knew the Gold Bond name, so they demanded it. Quality and comfort were always being refined. By now steel innerspring technologies were dominating, yet Gold Bond's pure cotton and hand-made features were beginning to stand alone.
Today, Gold Bond is not only known as a superior quality leader in the mattress industry, it is also world renowned for making the finest futon mattresses. And for starting something entirely new, the modern futon.

so happy with my new mattress
Annonymous from San Francisco, CA– Verified Buyer
This mattress fits nicely on my flat wooden bed frame. It's firm and thick enough so I don't feel the plywood surface underneath. I heard about chemicals in mattresses and was a little worried that it would smell bad, but it doesn't. It actually smells nice. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I really like firm mattress and I really enjoy sleeping on futons. They are quite great, cheap but comfortable. I chose 4" instead of thicker futons, but I think they are enough right now. Wish they could stay the same after long-time use. I am from China and I am not used to sleeping on soft bed, this futon totally satisfies my expectation.
comfy and non-toxic

I bought this 4" futon for my son and tried it out. I loved it so much I bought the 8" for myself. I was looking for something made of natural materials with no flame retardant and this was an affordable alternative to an organic mattress.
Good quality but strange smell

I have not actually used this mattress yet but intend to use it for/with my baby when he or she arrives! We are doing a Montessori-style room which has a floor mattress and I think the thickness is just perfect for that. However, I've had it over a month and it still has a strange smell -- kind of chemically. Hopefully that will be gone in another month or so when the baby arrives!

I think this is an all around good futon mattress. Very firm. The cotton tends to get displaced a little but it's a minor problem.
