The arm has a nice movement to it, but the lamp "head" itself does not rotate (up or down, toward or away). I imagine if we had not had dimmers installed, it would be a bummer not to be able to direct the light. We had them hard wired, but it is a nice feature that you can choose to just hang them and go or hard wire... we are happy. Was this helpful? Yes / No
