Heavyweight carbon steel Wok from San Diego, CA on 03/31/2015 – Verified Buyer
First of all this is a very well designed Wok! The bowl is heavier steel than most Woks I've seen (it's thicker, a heavier gauge steel) and the other 2 that I already own that are larger than this one. Now for a few reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars. The picture up there of that beautiful shiny Wok is all wrong. This is a picture of the Wok when you get it out of the box alright, but it's NOT a picture of the Wok that's ready to use. THAT Wok would be BLACK, because that's what color it is when it's been seasoned. But the first thing you get to do before you season this Wok (unlike a Wok that you might buy in a Chinese Restaurant Supply that's covered with oil that you have to wash off) is to remove a plastic covering, referred to as a "protective layer" that keeps the Wok all nice and shiny for that picture you see up there. To remove the plastic covering you follow the directions, which I did, and by the third try still not much was happening, so I improvised and removed the plastic layer, which took about 3 hours of hard work. Maybe this layer is too thick, or maybe it needs a hotter stove than mine, but I do love a challenge! Seasoning is the easy part, and judging by the quality of this carbon steel it will take a rich, dark finish, but I'm going to go one step extra and polish the raw steel surface before I put it back on the stove to season it. Also, the 2 available pictures of this 12" Wok don't show the back, where the handle attaches to the bowl. I worried about that, and it was the first thing I checked, but it's a very secure method and the handle is a nice piece of Oak with that convenient ring to hang the Wok safely! It's a good design and I like it.

I haven't used it that many times yet, but it heats very evenly, is very well made, and seems to work well. The "conditioning" process is still on-going, but I'm sure it will just get better with more use and age.

I used it the first night i received it and made a great stir fry i love the high sides because of the high sides i can divide the vegies from my meat where i am cooking then we will mix the eggs or anything else i am putting in it it's such a great thing to have in the kitchen!! Love it !!!!!!
