Filing Cabinets

Esthetically, the cabinet is pleasing to me. The color matched the picture fairly accurately, though I might have labeled it as coffee rather than antique cherry. Just a note - the picture I took does look more like antique cherry, but honestly the color is lighter. The carcass looks to be made of parawood and at 68 pounds (mfg. stated weight) is pretty substantial. The cabinet was easy to put together. The inserts were already in place and the holes lined up perfectly. Once assembled the cabinet became fairly rigid, with very little sway. Beside a dining room table where I only had to attach the four legs, this has been the easiest piece of RTA furniture to assemble. I didn't even bother reading the instructions, and in about 45 minutes I had the cabinet assembled and the packaging cleaned up. There was one weakness that I observed. When assembling the drawers, I think there were 3 screws that did not get adequate purchase in the wood. This may have been caused by too large a pilot hole. To be on the safe side I disassembled the drawers and applied a bead of wood glue to the mating surfaces and then inserted a piece of toohpick into each hole to have material for the screw to engage. Once assembled the drawers slid easily unto the tracks and operate smoothly. I have a home based business and file my client's documents in the cabinet, and have a small laser printer sitting on top. It's just me using the cabinet and I don't open the drawers continuously so the cabinet will probably last me for quite some time. Would I recommend this piece of furniture? Yes. For someone looking for a moderate priced file cabinet to store their personal records or a small business looking for a compact file cabinet (it does hold both letter and legal file folders) this cabinet could be a fit."..."  Read more

Cabinet is solidly built with useful configuration. Only one of the filing drawers can be opened at a time, as any good filing cabinet should do to avoid tipping over. Unit comes with file bars and brackets to support several possible file size and layout configurations. My only gripe is that closing the larger bottom lateral filing drawer with standard file folders causes the file tabs to rub against the cabinet support above on the way back into the cabinet."..."  Read more

My fiancé and I have been looking for a better solution for our important paperwork than the plastic file boxes we've been using, but we didn't want the ugly industrial metal filing cabinets. We wanted a quality piece of furniture that we could display in our home. I did a bit of Googling and found this one, which perfectly meets our needs. A couple online retailers offer this same file cabinet, but Wayfairs had the best price. It turned out to be a lot more sturdy and well made than I expected for the money, and the lock is a major plus. The bottom file drawer is plenty big enough to hold my and my fiancé's letter sized files, while the upper drawer will be used for storing basic office-type supplies like pens, pencils, stapler, etc. On top of that, when we leave or have company over, we can stash our valuables in the top drawer and lock it for security. It comes with two keys so we can both have one. The espresso finish is great, matches the rest of our furniture very well, and the only assembly I had to do was screwing in the drawer handles and placing the hanging file supports in the drawers. My sole complaint is that the drawers provide a bit more resistance than I think they should, but they'll either get better with time or I'll figure out how to grease the slides. I've been wanting a filing cabinet for some time now, but we kept putting off buying one because we thought we didn't have room in our tiny apartment. But when my poor desktop filing box got so full I could no longer get files in and out without the jaws of life I decided to get a real filing cabinet as an early birthday present for myself. I was very disappointed after looking on [...] and at some cheap options from some local big box stores, but luckily I stumbled across this great option[...] we were very pleased when the box came - the product description says "Assembly Required" so we were expecting it to ship flat. Boy were we surprised when the FedEx guy showed up with a huge box looking like it contained a fully assembled filing cabinet! We opened the box and the only assembly that was required (if you could even call it that) was for us to put the handles on the drawers!!!The only thing to be cautious of is that the cabinet does seem to be prone to tipping forward when the drawers are pulled out, but in my experience that's a fairly common problem with all filing cabinets - I solved it by dropping a 5-lb weight in the back of the bottom drawer and it no longer tips.Overall we are very very satisfied with our purchase and I would purchase this same item again in a heartbeat!"..."  Read more
