I'm new to pressure cooking and thus can't provide a comparison with pressure cookers. I can say that I purchased it after looking at a lot of reviews of different brands, and am very pleased with the results. It's user friendly, sturdy and works really well. I was prepared to be nervous about the high wire act of cooking with super heated steam, but the Fagor is simple to understand and to use. I've also been so impressed by its energy efficiency. It takes a couple of minutes at higher heat to achieve high pressure, and then maintains that pressure level with the stove turned down to a simmer. On top of that, it cook foods in substantially less time than using other cooking methods. Pretty good! I don't know why pressure cookers aren't at the top of ' tips on how to save energy' lists. Only 'complaint' - the DVD is inaccurate about how many rings are showing when the cooker gets to high pressure. Just follow the manual instructions instead.
Quick and Efficient!

Got the 8qt. version of this pressure cooker. Cooks food twice as fast as my older 10qt. unit and does so without too much energy. The built in timer is a handy feature to have if your stove doesn't have a timer built in. I recommend this unit to anyone looking to replace an old pressure cooker or just looking to try a pressure cooker out. It's easy to use and the quality is great!
