Great wheelchair from North Plainfield, NJ on 11/05/2014 – Verified Buyer
I am very pleased with this transport wheelchair that was purchased for my daughter. We were struggling with a cheaper brand chair for a couple years now that was not holding up well. Although the price was a few hundred dollars more, it is well worth it! It is extremely comfortable (when I sit in it) and since it is ergonomic, I am sure it is giving her the support she needs when she spends a couple hours or more in it. We take it everywhere although I do not think it is suited for rough terrain. You will need to purchase a few optional items such as the seat belt and anti-tippers but both are reasonably priced. I am glad we found a product that I believe is well-made.

Best Transport Wheelchair handsdown! from Oregon on 05/15/2011
We have several push wheelchairs and transport wheelchairs but needed something more light weight and more comfortable for an upcoming cruise. We did a lot of research before purchasing this transport chair. We needed a transport chair that was easy to push, had handbrakes for going up and down the ships ramps and that was comfortable enough for my mother to sit in for hours at a time while out on a tour. We have been using the Karmen transport chair for several weeks now. We got the frog legs for the front and my mother states that it is the most comfortable wheelchair she has ever been in. It is easy for us to push (we pull it backwards going up ramps). My mom can sit in it for hours. She loves the armrests and the slight backward slant of the seat makes her feel secure, especially when going up and down ramps. The 14 inch back wheels are a little larger than the other transport chairs that we have. I think that also contributes to the smoother ride. The wheelchair is light weight enough that we can put it up on a cargo carrier on the top of our car. My mom has back problems and so far she has had no problems with her back while sitting in this wheelchair. The ergonomic design seems to be placing her spine in the correct alignment. We had purchased the extra foam pad for the chair, however, my mom feels that it is comfortable enough without the extra pad. My mom has a hard time getting in and out of wheelchairs. So one of my big concerns was how easy it was to get into and out of the wheelchair. Due to the height of the wheelchair seat, it is really easy for my mom to get in and out of the chair. I think that we finally found the perfect transport wheelchair.

Comfortable ride. from Sparta, NJ on 04/21/2015 – Verified Buyer
This chair offers the comfort that we were looking for. It "flexes" as it rolls over bumps in the road, providing a smooth ride. The 90 degree knee-bend angle is too severe for our needs, so I will have to add the elevating leg rest accessory. Unfortunately this piece is currently unavailable from Karman. Pros: Lightweight, smooth and comfortable ride, easy to fold up and store. Cons: Armrests too short; knee-bend angle too severe.

The chair is all we expected and more. from Boca Raton, FL on 04/24/2015 – Verified Buyer
The chair is light weight, easy to keep clean and easy to manage for me as the caregiver. It is very comfortable for my husband when he has to sit in the chair for long period of times. Pros: weight and design Cons: seat could be a bit wider

Smaller than I had expected. from Pacific Northwest on 11/10/2011 – Verified Buyer
I purchased this chair for my 92 yr. old mother. She is 5, 110 lbs. Nothing she tried out in town was comfortable. All the transport chairs had straight backs, she wanted the back to be tilted back a little. I wanted large tires for rough ground, hand breaks on the pushing handles and swingaway leg rests. This chair had good reviews so I ordered it with the 18 wide seat. Even though this chair is rated at 250 lb. weight capacity I feel it is best suited to a VERY small person. Without a cushion the leg rests were on the 2nd to the longest hole adjustment, and remember my mother is only 5. Reviews said it was comfortable without an extra cushion, not so. My mother is thin and the seat felt hard to her, the seat even felt a little hard to me. I eventually ordered the 2 Elements gel cushion from The Comfort Company for it. The only problem is that the depth of this chairs seat is 17 and unless you order a really expnesive cushion, you can only get cushions 18X16 or 18X18 so your cushion will be a little small or a little big. The chair came with the hand breaks poorly assembled (they were both put on angled to the right, the opening of one was much larger than the other and one was put on farther forward than the other. (I actually had to take the chair to a local shop to have them fixed.) I have back problems and wanted to get away from lifting a heavy wheelchair in and out of the car. This chair IS lightweight but I am only 5 2 and I have to bend over to push the chair which bothers my back. It pushes fairly easily, I appreciate the breaks on the push handles when going down hill, and most of all my mother is comfortable (WITH the cushion). To lock the wheel breaks you have to bend down to where the back wheel is and lock them...more bending. The wheel break lever itself is a little different, you have to slide out the plastic handle from over the top of the metal part of the break lever. It doesnt stay out very well and kind of wobbles around unless you slide it back in each time you use it. I like the swingaway leg rests, but before you can swing the leg rests away you have to remove the cloth calf rest that goes behind the riders lower legs. If you only remove the calf rest from just one side and then swing the leg rests away you have to be careful that the rider doesnt trip over the end of the cloth when they get up. The cloth is just attached with Velcro and is easy to remove, but is a little bit of a nuisance when you have to undo it every time the rider needs to get in or out, I think I would have prefered the heel loops instead. Because of the ergonomic shaped seat my mother has a little bit of a hard time getting out of the chair. The seat dips to the back and, with or without the cushion, its difficult for her to easily slide forward in the seat. The concave armrests are comfortable for her. I ordered the DRIVE universal up holder for this chair, but because the armrest supports angle downward the only place for the cup holder is on the seat tube which is a little awkward for the rider to use when placed there. Be aware that Kaman makes two transport chairs that are very similar. When I asked Kaman specifically what the differences were between the two chairs they told me the arm rests and the Wayfair were different. So I assumed I would be getting their 3-stage push handle breaks that allow you to lock the breaks from the push handles. I was wrong, the 3-stage breaks come on the chair I didnt order. For the price of this chair I am disappointed that the push handle breaks dont have the locking feature and also in how poorly they came assembled. Im also disappointed in how my back hurts when I have to bend over to push it. Overall, I rated this chair 3 stars because my mother likes the way the back tilts back slightly...its more comfortable for her and she feels a little safer. I like that it is lightweight, the large tires for rough ground, and its nice being able to break going down hill. I believe this chair may be ergonomic for the passenger but not as overly user friendly to the person to has to push it as I had hoped for.
