After weeks of looking for an entertainment center, we finally decided to go with the Lansford Park Berkshire expandable unit. The end factors, above-average quality and cost. We saw this in a local furniture store (oddly, under a completely different name). We didn't "fall in love" with it, but we liked it compared to other units in the store. Also, the "good" ones we saw at other locations were in the $4000 to $8000 range. The color is closer to a brown that a cherry (not a tinge of red). The "distressed" part isn't a big deal really. I would prefer it without it, but I feel it doesn't really add anything aesthetically. It came in 6 boxes. The pier bottoms and tops come 95% assembled. The entertainment stand was 90% assembled. Basically, you just have a base and you put the assembled drawers on top, put the backing on, and then put the top on. The expandable capability really is pretty ingenious. It doesn't look expandable, but more like it was designed specifically for your TV. I would say it took us 3 hours to put everything together (2 people) and that was taking our time. It comes with directions in each box. The only fault of the unit itself was that the brackets for the bridge above the tv aren't really the right size. It's a little short. Meaning, when you drill the holes to secure the bracket, it's a little too close to the edge. I think it's safe enough even without the screws, but with a flat-panel TV right below it, I wouldn't want to take a chance (I installed a different bracket.). Wow, what a great buy this unit was! I had a quote from a local carpenter to build in a similar unit for me for $7600.00... when I found this Hartford Entertainment Center for less than one third of the other quoted price. I was skeptical when I placed my order as the only review I could see of this unit was one star and quite negative. I ordered it anyway, knowing that I could return it if I wasn't satisfied. Was I ever pleased when it arrived in perfect shape, carefully packed in tons of styrofoam, and when I got it all set up, I was amazed at how great it looked in my living room with my new 70 inch 3D TV. I get nothing but compliments and of course I tell everyone my secret of where I got it from! Yes, it's made in China, and I wish that we could make them in North America for the same price and employ our own workers; that's my only regret.
