"Hi Lorraine, On the product page the following information is given on the various sizes of the toppers: Specifications: •Twin: 2" - 4" H x 38" W x 75" D •Twin XL: 2" - 4" H x 38" W x 80" D •Full: 2" - 4" H x 53" W x 75" D •Queen: 2" - 4" H x 60" W x 80" D •King: 2" - 4" H x 76" W x 30" D •California King: 2" - 4" H x 72" W x 84" D The standard widths of mattresses are 38-39" for twin size, 53-54" for full size, 60" for queen size, 76" for king size, and $72" for California king size. Check the width again of your mattress. The 42" width is not among the standard sizes."

I have difficulty sleeping flat on my back, but found the matress to support me much better, without any tender spots on my back and hips. The odor (off-gassing?) was so bad that the topper is still in time-out on the covered deck contemplating its future. Was a little bigger than our mattress when it came, but it actually made the bed wider. Within a couple nights I was sleeping more sound and NOT tossing and turning like I usually did.
