    Earthquake 800W Generator

from Santa Rosa, CA– Verified Buyer

Only reason I did not rate it 5 stars is that I only have a few weeks and less than 10 hours use time. Reliability is critical and it does look well designed and built but only time will tell. I followed the simple start up instructions and it started easily on the third pull. Hunted speeds a little bit then settled down to a reasonable idle. The inverter controlled variable speed operation was very good. I ran it several hours out of the box with varying loads to break it in and it worked flawlessly. Gas consumption was negligible and it used no oil. looking over the inner workings it compared very favorably with my 3 year old Yamaha EF 2000 which is a great machine but quite heavy at 45#. I bought the Earthquake to use for topping off my trailer batteries when camping and it only weighs about 1/2 as much as the Yamaha and is significantly smaller. Why didn't I buy a Yamaha 1000 instead? Price. The Yamaha 1000 is about $900 and the Earthquake less than $300. Honestly, the Yamaha never looked to be worth what they charge. Now the only question is: will Earthquake live up to it's apparent high quality looks and be as reliable as the Yamaha? Also, I operated the Yamaha next to the Earthquake and they make about the same noise close up. At a distance of 100 feet, the Earthquake is less noisy but not by much. Either machine is totally reasonable to use in a camping situation for several hours battery charging ever other day or so. If this unit holds up reasonably well, it is a great bargain.
