this pack is sturdy and has gone thru much abuse. rock climbing, thick timber, lakes, streams, mud, snow, the gratuitous rolling around on ones back. packs hold alot - deep, zips open wide, this picture doesnt show but several gear loops, the handle is perfect for helping assist in climb. sturdy leash attach. packs do not bounce when dog is running. I would recommend this pack without question. Adjusts easily for any dog shape. I have amstaff mix - who is large chested, long body. I have been looking for backpacks for quit sometime now with out any luck. However when I stumbled across this back pack i knew it was the one for my dog. The pockets are big enough to store all the essentials for your dog. Along with maybe a few of your essentials too!! lol There are also some custom smaller pockets to hold smaller items. The Ruff Wear Palisades Pack was an excellent choice for my best friend, Dakota. Dakota is a Jack Russell Terrier who loves going on long day hikes with me. If there are streams to cross, so much the better. Initially he was confused by the addition of a backpack to our favorite past time, but when I opened up the pockets and showed him that the things packed inside were his own food and water, he was very excited and instantly took off down the trail. We are training for the Appalachian together next year and will take our first week-long adventure next month. So far the backpack is standing up to all trail conditions, including crossing streams. This dog backpack is just great! The construction is very good, with heavy duty clasps with padding underneath to keep the dog comfortable. It works great on my Aussie shepherd mix.
