Aztec Pizza Oven Fireplace
TJ from San Antonio, TX– Verified Buyer
I received this oven a couple of weeks ago. The delivery wasn't coordinated and so they dropped it at the front door which wasn't ideal since it weighs 160 lbs. It was extremely well packed in a wooden crate and came with a pizza stone and wooden peel which wasn't mentioned in the description so that was an unexpected bonus. The oven was very easy to put together. The top portion happily comes in two pieces which also wasn't mentioned. I was worried the top would be too heavy to remove routinely to use the open grill but the two pieces make that easy. The paint needs to be cured by building two little (15 minutes) fires in the oven which also wasn't mentioned. This apparently is important to keep the unit from rusting. I haven't had the opportunity to do that yet and I did get some rust on the inside and underside and on the bolts but I don't think it's going to be a big problem. The firebox is small and so getting wood to fit will take a little more effort but the small size of this pizza oven is one of the things that appealed to me as it doesn't take up too much space on the patio. It is cast iron which will rust in any case and will require occasional maintenance as all cast iron does but I don't see that as a negative. On the contrary, I'm thinking/hoping that the cast iron will absorb and radiate a large amount of heat when used as a fireplace vs the large open fire pits in which much of the heat dissipates but I haven't tested that out yet. The downside is that the cast iron will be screeching hot and a potential hazard to anyone who might touch it so I probably wouldn't have chosen this when we had little kids and pets all over the place; but I think it will be perfect for the adults. The only thing that seems a little flimsy is the spark screen in the front but I don't see that as an issue either. It sits pretty low to the ground so might not be the best ergonomically if you are doing a lot of cooking on it but the size is perfect with typical low patio seating. It's not the perfect fireplace or the perfect grill or the perfect pizza oven but as a unit it's perfect for what I want.

I love using this as a fireplace and it cooks too! It looks great on my patio. Yes there's a tiny bit of rust on it, just like any cast iron item. I scrub it off and put some olive oil on it. No problem. Comes with a cover. The whole thing arrives in a tiny box. I was really nervous that parts were missing but it was all there and easy to put together. I did not pay for the special shipping and it was delivered up my driveway to my garage. The Roadway delivery guy said they delivered to the closest covered area. I am very happy with this oven. Can't wait for fall so I can enjoy the fire every night!
Just made me a smokey pizza lover!

The pizza oven was well crated, and easy to assemble - kids did it. They also put in the wood for the fire, and it took a while to get coals to the right temp. Once the pizza went in, the fire had to be watched, and it was not long before a very nice crispy crust, apple wood smoked Hawaiian pizza came out. Because my kids had put the cover back on, the pizza was too smoky for the youngest, but everyone else thought it was great. Alas, I did not have any more pizzas. Great for first use. It drizzled, and as the other reviewers said - cast iron does rust. Applying a bit of cooking oil to season like a cast iron skillet, will help.
Heres an idea.....

Really enjoying the oven, even though it makes me drink a lot more beer than I should. One idea I had is that it'd be great if with the description you could include what sort and size of pizza stone is recommended to be used with this oven. I found one that works okay, but it would've been nice to have that info available when ordering. We love the oven though. It works exactly as advertised and the quality seems to be very good so far.
like it for its wow factor in the evening

It is nice piece, mainly used for grilling and pizza making. it is difficult to regulate temperature when grilling or baking as for better result I have to cover front part =where you feed wood to minimize loose of heat so the cooking/baking/grilling will be more even so I place metal sheet on the door. Pizza oven opening is bit too small if you grilling meat that needs turning --but all in all good quality --looking good but bit pricey due to its flaws --but if used in the evening as a fire place it has amazing wow factor.
so far so great

Packaging was awesome. Easy to assemble. Cured the paint as per instructions then covered a week ago. I uncovered it yesterday to show it off and did not see any signs of rusting as others have mentioned Did I mention that it was snowy and rainy this past week Can't wait to cook on it!!

It was easy to assemble and it looks great. I have been unable to figure out how to get the top of the pizza done with out burning the bottom of the crust. I have been in the pizza supply business for several years but have never worked with a wood fired oven.

the reason we like this little outside wood burner is we can have a quick fire on the patio every night .instead of going down further into the yard to the big bonfire area .I would think we'll probably use the three to four nights a week .should I get something like this long ago .
