The only reason I needed a new one, in fact I purchased 3, is because the 2 that I had started to get beat up by the weather. In particular the metal rods started to poke through the fabric. So I just took a needle and thread and sewed the tips of the fabric. Ultimately I gave in and just decided to purchase new ones. The problem was now after 5 years the eclipse shade is hard to find. In fact Wayfair may be the only place to get it with piece of mind given that there are other vendors on the web but I was not comfortable buying from them because frankly I never heard of them. So the security with using my credit card was a big factor. Besides, Wayfair not only is trusted but had the best price.
Now let's get to the quality difference between now and then. Well first off the new ones that Wayfair sells made by Dayva are 4 inches shorter in height at the highest point when opened than the old ones. And second the fabric is thinner. These are the two differences. But given the fact that these shades are hard to find and at some point probably will be fazed out altogether, and that would be a shame, better get them while you can. They give you privacy and shade when you need it. They are unique and valued for my purposes. I use them on my deck railing in my backyard so when I want to sunbathe or take a dip in my pool, I won't have the nosy neighbors checking out my Speedo, lol.
