Mission/shaker style is
characterized by many clean,
rectangular or vertical lines,
and is wooden.
Modern/contemporary products
have very simple and clean lines
with no carvings or moldings.
Rustic/lodge products are made
out of heavy wooden furniture,
often resembling a log.
Traditional products look like a
family heirloom or are ornate,
detailed, generally pretty heavy
and expensive looking. These
products have details like
curled metal, ornate arms and
legs, and are much heavier in
detail than Transitional
furniture.
Transitional products are
simpler than traditional, but
not starkly modern. Often
characterzied by soft but clean
lines, there is some overlap
with “Traditional”, which allows
the transitional style to be
mixed with traditional and
modern furniture and not look
out of place.
Tropical/exotic products are
made of rattan or other tropical
woods -- should be ornate with
open latticing, and tropical
themed fabric options (palms,
seashells etc).
Sports products are usually
constructed of sports equipment
such as skis or hockey sticks or
feature a sports themed image.
