I have to admit, you get a little jaded in today's information age. My three year old OXO stainless steel knife set (back in the day highly rated by consumer reports) was not holding up well. Additionally, it had never had a proper sized Santoku (although it's smaller Santoku is still good for small diameter cutting). I did a decent amount of research and decided this knife set was the way to go. The difference is stark. The knives clearly aren't cheap, even if the knife block is bamboo laminate on wood. The knives are well balanced and cut beyond my expectations. I even tackled some old winter squash and got some very clean and low effort chopping on them even though they were tough from being stored all winter.
