Ice Cream Machines Read some books about making ice cream and you'll find they all come out soft, like soft-serve ice cream. They must be refrigerated at least 4 hours, and preferably overnight, to achieve the consistency people are used to. Alton Brown did a show on the subject, and every ice cream making book I've read discusses it. So to say the product is "too soft" doesn't take into account how long one must freeze the product to get the right texture. |

not a bad deal overall the product was easy to use. one button that turns it on and nothing else. my only problem was with the outer lid and the locking system. it had sort of a flimsy lock system and could come off easily. |

My new favorite appliance This ice cream maker is amazing! I don't eat dairy or soy and wanted to make an ice cream out of coconut milk. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, especially on my first try, but it was hands down THE best ice cream I've ever had. We stared at the machine in amazement as it churned out perfect ice cream with just 4 simple ingredients! It was SO easy too. The only con (but this would be the case with any ice cream maker) is that you have to plan ahead by freezing the bowl. [@] and search the title "Homemade Coconut Ice Cream." You will love this machine! |

Runny Like a Milkshake This is my first ice cream maker, so maybe the consistancy I'm getting is normal. But the result was much like a very mushyy milkshake. I had to freeze the ice cream for 2 hours before it reached ice cream consitancy and then then ice crystals were too big. I'm going to try to perfect this machine, though. |

Easy to use with great results Tired of hand-blending my ice creams I broke down and ordered the ICE-21. Just out of the box, I was really surprised with how big it was (the base is even bigger than my Braun blender) and all my initial visions of easy storage were done away with. That will teach me to read specs with greater attention. A pro with the size is that the ice cream bowl at 1.5 quarts is quite generous sized. I made two batches of ice cream since I received it - 0.5 quarts and 1 quart and had it last upto a week (for the 1 quart) for two people. I have not tried ice cream recipes from the booklet, but I made two quick recipes I found online, 1 for ice cream and 1 for frozen yogurt and the results of both were fantastic. The ice cream came out slushier than I wanted to eat right away, but freezing for a couple of hours produced a delicious, creamy result. I'm very satisfied with it and thrilled that home-made ice cream is just 15 mins away. For easy re-use I keep the bowl in my freezer when I'm not using it, so that I can whip up a batch when the mood strikes. If I had to mention a con, it would be that the machine is very noisy. I had a video streaming on my laptop when I started the ice cream maker and the subsequent noise drowned my laptop's puny speakers. But, I can live with that for 15 minutes. It also would have been nice if all the moving components were dish washer safe and the bowl came with a lid so that I could store my ice cream in it. |
