"Hi Tara, since this item ships through a small parcel delivery service, assembly is required. When assembling the cart, you could definitely leave the rack off and the side would be finished, however you would be able to see the pre-drilled screw holes. Well it was absolutely perfect. No marks, stains, scratches or missing pieces. I set out to do it right, doing inventory of pieces, labelled nuts and bolts and sat down to put it together. The instructions were good. I'm a 58 yo woman and only needed my son to help with some difficult to reach or heavy items. I put it together in 3 hours.
