Searched online for days for mini cribs. There are minis that fold in half for storage, minis that turn into toddler beds, minis that look cool but don't do anything else but empty your wallet, and there are these from DaVinci that turn into regular beds for less than a hundred bucks. Although still limited on shape and color we opted for the Annabelle because we dislike the old curvy traditional look. Annabelle is the only mini/full size conversion that had somewhat contemporary/modern lines that was reasonably priced. I figure I could respray them a cool funkier color once the twins are older and using the regular bed. Why spend the money on a crib, then a toddler bed, then a full size when you can go this route and after they grow out of the crib put them straight into something that will last them most of their childhood. Newborns don't need that much room and unless your baby is already 38" long, which I doubt, the mini is plenty of room. Parents always opt for the standard because 1) they never heard of a mini 2) they think babies need 5 feet of space to grow 3) space or money isn't an issue. The finish on these minis look good and not cheap. But be careful when assembling it does scratch very easily. Even your finger nails will leave a scratch. The pad that comes with the crib isn't a mattress!! I don't know why reviewers even complain about using it. I bought the LA Baby 3" mattresses and they're plenty firm. Again, a 5" mattress is overkill. Your looking for a firm mattress not the thickest one and thick doesn't always equate to firmness. Also with the 5" mattress your just raising their reach that much higher when they start to stand up. Along with the LA Baby organic mattress pad and LA Baby compact knitted sheets everything was a perfect fit."..."  Read more

I shopped online for cribs for a long time before deciding on this one. My choices were somewhat limited, as I knew I wanted a 4-in-1 convertible crib in espresso. Because this crib had no user reviews, I was hesitant to purchase, but the price was reasonable and from the pictures, it seemed to be what I was looking for, so I went ahead and took a chance. Now have it assembled, and I am pleased so far! Baby is not due until a few months down the road, which will be the REAL test, but for now, I can give the following info about it:The color is an espresso, but it is not the darkest color out there -- just a slight hint of a cherry in there as well -- but it is a nice color nevertheless and will still match with a dresser I've purchased, which IS darker in color. Once assembled, the crib appears VERY sturdy and the wood/construction seems to be of good quality. Also, the paint does not seem to chip off, as with some of the other brands of cribs I did manage to see in stores. The downside, at least for us, was the assembly. Now, the entire process was not a problem and mostly went pretty quick and according to the instruction. The one hold-up was when you have to screw something in diagonal (most are straight, so when you get to this point, it's like the 2nd or 3rd step, you'll know what I'm talking about). The screws go into a "peanut" type thing(forget what they're actually called) , but if the pre-drilled holes are too deep, the screw will end up just hitting the top half of the hole on the "peanut" and strip it. So, first, as for all of the time when you're putting in the screws, be sure that you are holding the peanut in place with a screwdriver so that the hole does not move around (works best w/2 people). Another solution we did when the pre-drilled hole was too deep was to fill it with a few bits of scrap paper to make it sit higher. And don't worry -- if you strip a few of these "peanuts" (maybe they are called bolt-carriers?), you can buy extras at [...]or probably any other hardware store -- as the crib does not come with extra hardware. Other than that assembly difficulty, I have no complaints so far. [...] So at this point (and I have not tried it with an infant or tried to convert to a toddler bed, etc.) I would definitely recommend!"..."  Read more

We have the DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 for our daughter, so choosing this crib for our son was a no-brainer. We only switched from Kalani to Porter because the wide center bands on the Porter crib seemed slightly more masculine to me. These cribs are wonderful, and consistently have some of the highest reviews for their price range. They are versatile, strong, and hold up to our monkey children. Our DD is currently using hers as a toddler bed, and it has been great for 2.5 yrs. The ONLY wish I have is that the wood werent so soft. The cribs and the dressers mar fairly easily. They are still great, but scratches show a lot, especially with the dark colors like the Espresso and Cherry. That is my only reason for not giving 5 stars."..."  Read more

I did a lot of research when it came to my baby's crib. I was looking for durability, safety, convertible, and an over all good looking crib. It finally came down to Da Vinci's Kalani. I was a little ify as to ordering online. But after receiving the crib I was thrilled. No scratches like other reviews had mentioned. It was quite easy to put together, took my boyfriend and me about an hour... our baby napped longer than that. It is very sturdy. The bar is not to high that it is awkward to place the baby in, but also not so low that it seems the baby will climb out. The only downside I had read about what the fact that there were no plugs for the screw holes. Personally I think the crib looks beautiful with out them. Plus there won't be any hassle trying to pry them out when it's time to convert the crib to a toddler bed. I purchased a Serta mattress with it, fits perfect even with out a mattress cover. All in all I am in love with this crib and could not be happier. My baby slept perfectly through the first night and all the rest after. You can finally stop your searching. This crib is it!!"..."  Read more
