This mattress is very comfortable - firm, but with soft layers under a vinyl top. Our son sleeps very well on the mattress, and the transition from bassinet to crib was an easy one. We like the "plush quilt laminate" and easy to clean surface - basically, we can skip the mattress pad and use only a sheet. My only problem is that the large, oval label shows up under the sheets (I think many mattresses are designed this way - why?) I wasn't sure if the mattress should be placed label side up or down - I called the company and was told to place the mattress label side up for crib, label side down for toddler/day bed. Most safety products are lacking in "looks." This crib mattress is the safest crib mattress I have found, and it looks so nice in my baby's crib. It's easy to use. My wife and I are still waiting for our baby to arrive but the mattress [...] was quite quick. We opened the box and there was very little smell of the vinyl and we don't notice it now that we have had it out in the open for a while. The mattress is firm - not too hard and not too soft. It does have a very snug fit into the crib and this is for safety reasons (it actually sticks to the paint of the crib but didn't rip the paint off).
