A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to do a product review from Wayfair superstore. This offer could not have come at a better time, as I'm transitioning to working from home. My job requires a full day of computer time, and sitting passively in front of the computer all day somehow makes me simultaneously lethargic and distractible. With the transition to home, I was hoping to switch to a standing desk. I wasn't sure if I could make the switch successfully (I have enough ergonomics experience to know this transition would have to be handled correctly, or I'd abandon my shiny new desk to sit on the couch all day), so I wanted an economical solution that I could try on for size. My favorite part of the Wayfair shopping experience was the search capabilities. I really had no idea where to start, but was able to quickly narrow the field by selecting variables like Desk Height (the slider controlling price point was particularly helpful. Yes, there is a [$] desk available. No, I don't need to know about it). In the end, it was the diagram below that really let me hone in on the desk I wanted to try. I needed to make sure that a drafting desk would be able to give me a flat surface at a height high enough to meet my needs. The specifications provided for the Alvin and Co. Professional Drafting Table looked perfect[...]assembly required a bit more effort than expected (it would have been nice for the description to include a list of required tools). Nothing outlandish was necessary, just a hammer and a screw driver, but I had a disproportionate feeling of handiness once all was said and done.I would definitely recommend this table to others as a flexible, easy to set up standing desk."..."  Read more

I was looking for a small (3-foot-ish) folding table that is highly portable but sturdy enough to carry a full desktop computer. This fit the bill perfectly. The height is just about right for a keyboard with a basic folding chair, which is more important than the monitor height that's easily fixed by a stack of books.I could not find 3-foot utility folding tables at most office supply stores; this is a bit of a special order for me. What's important is that it's light enough that I can easily handle this by myself, and it will fit in a car with no problems when I move. It's definitely more expensive than some tables I saw at [...], but I see this as an investment: because it's a utility table, I can use it for anything in the future. Or just store it.At first I thought the legs were uneven, but then I realized the little feet screw in and out to different heights, so my table is *very* stable.There's just enough space on this thing for my desktop box, monitor, keyboard, mouse, lamp, with a bit left over. I was in search of a file cabinet that looked more like furniture compared to the cold metal that you typically see. I came across this piece and thought it was just what I was looking for. It looked sleek, modern and not too cumbersome. I almost passed on it though as I read online reviews from other consumers but with the price and my desperate need to get organized I figured I had little to loose. It was either this or cold... ugly... metal. And I was not disappointed! It came in pieces so I had to pull out my tools. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to put it together but the instructions were very easy to follow. The greatest complaint that I saw from consumers was that the drawer was uneven and was scraping the inside when opening and closing. I have absolutely no problems with drawer. Nicely designed table-- the extra tilt (70 degrees vs 35 degrees on most tables) is very useful for good posture and lack of perspective distortion when doing serious drawing. The top easily adjusts with one hand. Assembly is straightforward and intuitive if you are used to IKEA or other flat pack furniture items. The one issue is that the drawers and trays are made from brittle plastic-- you need to be careful putting them together so they dont crack. These accessories are also attached with tap screws and you need a heavy duty screw driver and good judgement to tighten them properly. However the main fittings are countersunk with nuts and fit together easily. The castors makes this table more useful in small spaces-- you could use it under with a Murphy bed for example. The unit is well packed for shipping. I thought about getting the optional light pad mount, but an ordinary clip lamp under the table works just fine for tracing so I wont bother. Overall an excellent value and ideal for home use-- I would want something heavier for serious institutionalmultiple user applications."..."  Read more
