I bought the lift top coffee table for every day use. You may notice I referenced several times how it scratches. I was using a cardboard paper coaster and slid it across the table. There was a small amount of dust on the table. I watched the scratches appear as I slid the coaster. I was mad. What kind of finish is on this table? I went out and had two pieces of custom glass cut to put on top of the table. The glass is split down the center so when you raise the half of the table that lifts up, it will have glass on it. The table is beautiful in design but is massive. Make sure you lay out a pattern of the table in the space you want to use it. We were surprised when we set it up. Our 1920s home is too small for a lot of modern-sized furniture. The proportions of the room sizes just don't fit most coffee tables available today. We've looked for years for a butler's coffee table similar to one we purchased in the early 1980s. This little table is perfect replacement as the coffee table in our living room and is even a little smaller than our older one, allowing for better flow around the chairs & couch. I purchased this table to complete my family room which is 20' x 20'. I wanted a large surface to lay snacks out on, play board games on, etc. This passage table is sturdy and beautiful! It even has 2 very roomy drawers--one hidden on each of the longer sides. The wood grain and warm brown color are gorgeous, and the rosette detail elevates this table from commonplace to extraordinary. However, upon delivery yesterday, I realized the height made it look absolutely massive compared to my "normal" size sofa, loveseat and large custom recliners. The passage table was almost at the same height as my sofa end tables. So, I guess what I really wanted was a large surface, but at cocktail table height (~18"). My husband and I took the bun feet and the "H-shaped" wooden brace off, took out the long metal screws that hold the lower parts in place and now have the perfect addition to out family room. [...] I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it met CA standards for VOC's, meaning there were no harmful chemicals to emit. The design is nice and looks much higher in quality than I was expecting. There are metal accents at the top of the table legs that I hadn't seen in the pictures but that add a little more of a modern appeal. The accents are actually metal plates used at the top of the legs for the assembly. The edges show once the table is together. It's a nice, clean, minimal accent. The table was extremely easy to put together (15 min). The legs were inside the storage area. You simply take them out and screw them in place. The hinge used for the lift top mechanism seems very sturdy and well constructed. The only downsides to this table are that you have to grasp the table top at both ends when you lift it up because it feels a bit wobbly (only when you're lifting/descending), and the finish on the table shows fingerprints. Once in the up position, the table feels very sturdy and has functioned well. I'm very happy with both the look and function of the table!"..."  Read more
