Hamilton Beach The Scoop Two-Way Brewer Coffeemaker Hamilton Beach
Hamilton Beach The Scoop Two-Way Brewer Coffeemaker

I am not a "Single Cup" coffee drinker, so ordering a Keurig was out of the question. I drink my coffee a pot at a time, usually. I know...it's a problem I'm working on. Anyway, as I researched coffee makers, this Hamilton Beach model was the highest rated and I thought it deserved a look. I've had all kinds of coffee makers in the past, from the single cup variety to the "Order the coffee and get a coffee maker FREE" variety, to other quality machines with a grinder and coffee bean holder already attached. The Scoop Two-Way Brewer is the best I've had so far. I can control whether I want to brew one cup or twelve. I can program it to brew at whatever time I want. There's very little clean-up (rinse out the carafe or cup and replace the filter and you're done) compared to that high-tech grinder model. I have even remarked to people that I have yet to spill a single drop. When pouring water into the brew chamber, in the past, I've always had water spill down the side of the pot and onto the counter or splash off the rim...it can be very messy. Whoever designed the pour spout here deserves some kind of medal! I have used the single serving travel cup feature--once--just to try it out. It seems the folks at HB have thought of everything. The design of the travel cup allows you to leave the lid on while you brew (you will have to remove it to add cream or sugar, if that's your style). There's a little drip pan underneath which doubles as a booster seat to bring smaller mugs closer to the spout or you can remove it if there's a taller mug you wish to use. Finally, the look of the thing--the stainless steel facing with that cobalt blue light...as my dad pointed out, this looks like a "man's machine". I don't know if that's the case, but it's definitely sleek. When I see that blue light glowing in my darkened kitchen, I know I'm going to be starting my morning off right. Great job, Hamilton Beach!"..." Read more

Frieling Stainless Steel French Presses Frieling

This is a beautiful and functional french press and it is much easier to clean than a percolator coffee pot. The plunger-screen is well designed w/a stainless steel plate with a up curved, i.e. radiused edge, to hold the ss screen and circumferential spring. I use this french press for coffee and for brewing iced tea. I use one Tablespoon of ground tea to a quart of boiling water-one can buy a bunch of the gallon sized tea bags at Sams and empty them into Mason jars. The only negative is the high cost of this Freiling Stainless Steel Press, i.e. approx. $70. Even though the double walled unit is not a great thermos bottle, this is not of much consequence as you should pour the coffee off of the grounds in 3-4 minutes. Just pour the coffee into a small thermos bottle."..." Read more

*smallish pot *may leave grounds *no auto shut off *appears very sturdy I love this coffee pot, however it is a little on the small side - makes two (2) generous mugs or three (3) regular mugs at most with each brew. If you are using cup & saucer you may just get 4 cups. I live alone so this is fine for me but you may want to consider a larger pot for 2 or more people. I think percolated coffee tastes best and this coffee pot makes great coffee. The only problem with the coffee is that there are sometimes a few coffee grounds in the last cup. I don't mind, but if you do, you may want to consider something with a filter. The coffee is always good and hot and stays hot if you keep the pot plugged in. Also, beware - the pot gets quite hot to the touch. The only thing that would make this better would be an automatic shut off after, say, 2 hours. The pot is also very cute (because it's small) and the construction appears very study and durable. I *love* this coffee pot!"..." Read more

High tech, programmable drip coffee makers may be all the rage due to their convenience, but the whole point is THE COFFEE. Fresh brewed coffee is by far better tasting. Brewing doesn't take any more time than using a coffeemaker. I can actually CLEAN all the parts of my percolator. And I even get more cups of coffee from fewer beans than I did with any of my drip coffee makers."..." Read more
