    Tips:
    • Think classic fun: candy corn, pumpkin carving, and scary stories.
    • Build a beach bonfire the easy way--start with a Duraflame log, add seasoned wood, then toss dried driftwood onto the fire for bursts of magical blue flames. (Get a permit from local authorities if necessary!)
    • Mark paths to the bonfire with votive candles in heavy mason jars and lanterns set firmly into the sand.
    • Stock up on reusable, unbreakable dishes, flatware, and glassware.
    • Keep beverages simple: beer, wine, and a signature drink. Have plenty of non-alcoholic picks on hand, too.
    • Hollow-out a pumpkin and fill with ice for a festive cooler.
    • Serve simple seasonal dishes (see recipes below) that let hungry guests help themselves.
    • Prepare a ghost story or two, and invite guests to share their own spooky tales.
    • Google a few fireside trivia games such as "Have You Learned Anything from Horror Movies?" and "Famous Horror Movie Quotes."
    PUMPKIN CARVING

Tricks and tips for selecting the right tools, keeping your pumpkin fresh, and enhancing the spook-factor with illumination.
    • Carve a Great Pumpkin

      • Clean the entire surface of the pumpkin with spray glass cleaner to clear away germs and prolong your jack-o'-lantern's lifespan.
      • Carve a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin (rather than the top) so it will sit level.
      • Use an ice cream scoop to remove pumpkin seeds.
      • Pumpkin carving kits are handy because they include stencils and carving tools. Or, you can use a sharp paring knife for do-it-yourself designs.
      • Place the pumpkin OVER a light source rather than lowering-in a candle. Flameless candles on a timer are an easy solution.
      • Prevent mold by covering the carved areas and interior of the pumpkin with petroleum jelly.
      • Cut short the chance of your pumpkin drying out by spraying it daily with a diluted bleach and water solution.
      • Note: A cut pumpkin will only last for a few days to a week, so it's best to carve no earlier than a few days before your Halloween festivities.
