Always enthralled by knife sharpening, Friel included in his list the invention of a truly effective electric knife sharpener that would work on a wide variety of knives, particularly, fine quality gourmet knives. He rescued a 20-year-old set of Gerber knives from a closet. They were a present from his wife June, and to his great frustration, he had never been able to put a satisfactory edge on them.
With fierce determination and a personal deadline of three years to show himself adequate progress on the project, Friel set to work in a basement laboratory and then sought the assistance of other professionals. "They were the nucleus of the EdgeCraft team," recalls Friel. He created thirteen prototypes before he came up with one that satisfied him. Soon after its introduction, the Chef's Choice Diamond Hone Sharpener earned the acclaim of food experts and chefs worldwide, including Pierre Franey, Jacques Pépin and the late Craig Claiborne.
Friel compares the day he left DuPont to follow his second career to the day he walked away from Johns Hopkins University after earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering."Unlike the day I left Johns Hopkins, when I left DuPont I could proceed with the knowledge and confidence gained from some 40 years of hands-on experience," Friel recalls. "I saw a need and I had the confidence that I could deliver."

I bought this item for my 12 year old Grand daughter. She loves to cook and was thrilled to add it to her cooking collection. She was so excited using it the first time that she rushed and ended up with waffle bowls instead of cones. She has mastered the use and the whole family is having ice cream nightly.
great for waffle cake

you can make with this one waffle cones but you can just make waffle cake-just leave waffles flat add something- jam or condensed milk or what you like between each waffle- put something on the top- and your cake is ready.

Well-made waffle maker

Works great! The maker starts heating a few seconds after you've closed the lid. It does the cooking for about a minute. Then the heating turns off. If you leave the lid closed, it will start new heating cycle in 20-30 seconds. There is a temperature regulator on the right side, so you can adjust the temperature. Makes waffles just fine. The maker is made of steel. The only thing I'd like to improve, is the lid lock: it's plastic. But since you do not not use it during the cooking, it's acceptable.

We took this along on vacation with us--we made homemade ice cream and then the waffle cones! YUMMY combination! The waffle machine was easy and quick to use and the batter directions were simple to follow.
This is a good product

This product is wonderful. You will never fail with any waffle cones with this machine. It's a little bit slow. It took me average 40 sec to 1 min to make a waffle cone.
