Always enthralled by knife sharpening, Friel included in his list the invention of a truly effective electric knife sharpener that would work on a wide variety of knives, particularly, fine quality gourmet knives. He rescued a 20-year-old set of Gerber knives from a closet. They were a present from his wife June, and to his great frustration, he had never been able to put a satisfactory edge on them.
With fierce determination and a personal deadline of three years to show himself adequate progress on the project, Friel set to work in a basement laboratory and then sought the assistance of other professionals. "They were the nucleus of the EdgeCraft team," recalls Friel. He created thirteen prototypes before he came up with one that satisfied him. Soon after its introduction, the Chef's Choice Diamond Hone Sharpener earned the acclaim of food experts and chefs worldwide, including Pierre Franey, Jacques Pépin and the late Craig Claiborne.
Friel compares the day he left DuPont to follow his second career to the day he walked away from Johns Hopkins University after earning a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering."Unlike the day I left Johns Hopkins, when I left DuPont I could proceed with the knowledge and confidence gained from some 40 years of hands-on experience," Friel recalls. "I saw a need and I had the confidence that I could deliver."

I purchased this electric water boiler because I needed something with a small capacity that would boil water, then shut off. It works great, and was the least expensive at Wayfair. I like that the lid is not a hard plastic that will get very hot and eventually fall apart (1 year) like the Capresso's lid. Shipping was fast too!
Perfect Single-Person Electric Kettle!
L.C. from Boston, MA – Verified Buyer
I finally had to replace my kettle that I had for over 10 years. I wanted a stainless steel kettle and this one happened to fit my needs! I mainly boil a lot of water for tea (and I like to drink hot water) and this kettle makes approximately 4 cups! I'm the only one who uses this so there was no need for me to go out and buy the huge ones. There's speculation that the lid can be easily broken, but I think it's because it's a little deceiving. Take a while to figure how to open the lid (Put your fingers under the tab and push IN to open!)
Perfect kettle for my office

Really nice size for making tea at my office. I agree with other reviewers that the on/off switch is on the place where it's intuitive to have a lid open/close switch, but I'm getting used to it. There is also a plastic piece that lines the spout that I could do without (otherwise it's entirely metal on the inside). Otherwise I think its great quality for the price and I'm really happy with it!
Basic, Compact & Quick
Debbie from Brighton, CO – Verified Buyer
PROS: Heats quickly, outside is all stainless steel and looks nice. Short and compact for small areas. CONS: No thermometer, shuts off after heating so water will start cool down immediately, hot to touch since it's all stainless and not insulated. Basic but works good.
Great Short Pot

I've used this kettle about a month and it's working great! It's stainless inside and heats water fast. It's short in stature and is just right for a 2-3 cup demand. The lid lifts up manually and the 'on' switch is in the place you'd expect a lid release to be. I'm use to it now.

This is the perfect size for us now in our retirement years. Heats fast love the recoiling cord. The best we have tried in all our years of drinking tea.
Solid little Tea Kettle!
Yuriy from Sedalia, MO – Verified Buyer
This Is a good tea kettle for serving probably 1-4 people. Good quality, and boils water very fast. Takes probably 3-4 minutes to boil when at the full line. The button to open the lid is a little awkward as you have to pull it back while opening and closing the lid, but not a big deal.

Couldn't believe a kettle so compact could boil up so much water. Love it!
