As a long time cat owner I have learned that having a cat tree of some sort is an absolute must. Before we ever had one, our furniture suffered terribly and small scratching posts were not enough to distract the cats from it. From the moment we gave the cats their own furniture, a cat tree with shelves for watching out the window and posts for scratching on every level, they totally ignored our furniture. I have berated myself for the previous years of furniture damage, pre-tree, and we will never be without one again. The main selling points of this tree for me are: • The extra shelf area afforded by the second row shelves that extend past the base. This gives a lot more play, lounging, etc. area in a multi-cat house. I even use that area now for feeding as well. • Large perches. We have large (Maine Coon) cats and need perches they can actually use. • Large sized condo. Our previous cat tree, though very nicely made, had an upright 13" diameter cylindrical condo with a shelf half way up. Our cats could never use it, they did not even fit in. This was a deal breaker for any cat tree I compared while shopping this time. Now with a large enough house both cats use it frequently. • Interesting and varied play and perch areas. • Stability. I was skeptical while building it that the height and the extending second row shelves would make it easy to tip but have been very happily surprised that this is a very sturdy design and even with large cats bouncing around on it, I have not had to worry about tip-overs. • All posts are sisal covered. This is a great selling point for me. Our previous cat tree had some sisal and some carpet covered posts. The carpet was torn up more quickly than the sisal and started looking ratty even though they seemed to prefer to scratch the sisal more. Granted, sisal eventually will shred as well but I have found it is not so onerous to re-wrap sisal posts with new rope. Questionable points: • This may be too large for some people but I would still recommend it for anyone that can manage to fit it into their homes. • The hammock may be very attractive to some cats but ours have not been interested in it. This has not been a problem as I just saved that cylinder condo from the old cat tree, took the shelf out and lay it horizontal in place of the hammock. That cylinder, in a horizontal position, no shelf taking up room, and open on both ends, is actually large enough for the cats to crawl through. They love the two doors, now on top, to squeeze, peek, and play through. • Our old cat tree was covered in carpet which not only gave some padding for more comfort but also was very durable. I put a little cushion inside the condo to make it more comfortable so mostly that is not a huge issue. I have never had faux fur covered cat furniture before so will have to learn how durable it is as a surface. So far (after only a couple of months) it is showing no signs of wear. Our previous carpet covered tree lasted about 8-9 years, though it was starting to get a bit ratty looking toward the end. In General This is a very nicely designed cat tree. It was easy to assemble and came with a little wrench for tightening it up. I had my sons help hold things together till screws were set but it was not necessary. They both just wanted to help build it so much and it turned out to be a fun if short family project. It was wider than I expected with the two shelves that stick out on each side. I had mostly gone by the base size and figured it would fit where our old cat tree sat based on that. We have a smallish living room so it takes up some room but no more than a large reclined chair in floor area. To make up for how much room it takes, it is extremely fun for the cats, giving them a lot of perching and scratch post area. We have it sitting next to a large window so they use it constantly, not only for play but also to hang out on and watch the world. They have loved it since I put it up. It was a tight fit because of my measuring error but once I managed to fit it into the space needed, I have been very pleased with the extra shelf area on the first level up, as it gives the cats more room and also allows us to feed them there. With a new kitten this has been useful in being able to feed each cat on its own shelf and avoid altercations as they learn how to get along together. Feeding on the cat tree is a new thing for us but I am thrilled with being able to have a central location for both their play and feeding. I do not water them there, however, both because our cats have always wanted to drink in the bathroom sink (we have had to keep a water bowl on the counter to accommodate this) and because I worried about water spills during play. A few crunchies scattered around, if it happens, is not nearly so messy."..." Read more

A few details - my cat is 6.1 pounds, a female bengal mix, and INCREDIBLY picky - I would suggest anyone who is about to buy a cat tree first make sure your cat will LIKE the material it's made out of first!I bought my cat this incredibly nice and plush fleece cat bed [...]and she refused to touch the thing even when it was covered in cat nip and had strings/bells dangling over it. So needless to say, I was extremely anxious whether or not she would even like this cat tree whatsoever.Thankfully the material, faux fur, turned out to be something she truly enjoys and she was already coming around and rubbing herself against the tree before I was done assembling it!Assembly was a breeze, the instructions were really quite straightfoward - if you have ever put together Lego's in your life, this will not post any problems for you. Like other people have said it is amazing how much they fit into a small little box. All the tools and screws are provided for you, so you won't need a separate set of tools of your own.The material itself is compressed particle board, which smells like the wood section of [...]but intensified with more glue. I would *highly* suggest airing this bad boy out or at the very least vacuuming it before your cat's delicate nose gets a whiff of it (it definitely gave me a sore throat from all the chemically smelling fumes). That being said, both the fur and the board material is pretty rugged and sturdy, I was initially afraid at having faux fur be the covering material but the way that it's glued onto the boards makes me feel if my cat ever does rip a hole in it, the rip will not propagate and just uncover the whole thing. One thing though - because they used glue to adhere the fur onto the board, there were some spots that were "rough" where excess glue is hidden underneath the fur cloth, it wouldn't have bothered me at all but there was a particularly big glob of it that is directly infront of the little tepee which my cat loves to sit in.My cat has already made herself home in the tree and has been actively jumping around from level to level, and the tree hasn't even come close to being tipped over so I feel the thing is pretty well balanced. Both the tepee and the upper room are big enough to fit my 6.1 lb cat nicely - and I've even added pillows/rug cushioning, which there's room for, as the faux fur material is soft but not thick or cushioned.A couple of notes - the hammock on the bottom is either too low or too awkward to get to due to pillars next to it, my cat hasn't even tried to look at it. The rope ladder I ended up not attaching because it just eats space and it doesn't seem like my cat wants anything to do with it. Also, the middle board on the long left pole where the top of the rope ladder would have been attached to, I rotated it sideways so my cat could have more of a ledge to use to jump to the upper level with the room, without rotating it, the upper L-shaped level with the room is perfectly flush above it vertically making it hard for my cat to jump up/down. The top basket also hasn't been used I think because it's hard to get to - my cat would have to jump from the top of the room to the small pole to enter the basket which I think is too precarious for her at this stage. Lastly, the topmost platform is insanely hard for her to get to for the same reason, maybe I just don't have that active of a cat, but I feel if there was a platform by the basket it would help her out alot in ascending the tree. All in all, for the price of [$] without tax or shipping costs, this thing cannot be beat! Took me 30-45 mins to assemble by myself and my cat is loving every moment of it!"..." Read more

Armarkat 57" Premium Soft Heavy Cat Tree in Khaki Armarkat

I bought this model as my second cat tree from Amarkat, since my kitten claimed the first one and wouldn't let my 3 year old on it. This new one is also a hit, even though it is a smaller model and the top platform isn't as high up. With 2 trees, my younger cat has decided to share and now they climb and sleep on both of them. I love this new tree for several reasons. First, it was easy to put together (took about 20 minutes). The color is more of neutral beige than a khaki. The peach is also a bit darker, so both colors blend with my carpet/room decor and don't stand out too much. I also love the fake fur covering- it is a bit fluffier than on my other Amarkat, and is warm and comfy enough for both kitties to sleep on. I also love that it's not the old fashioned carpet with longer fibers, which I've had on other cat furniture and which I found constantly strewn all over the house. The sisal scratching posts are also great, and has reduced the wear and tear on my couch. I also love the sizes of the bottom "house" and the platforms. My older cat is 13 lbs. and fits comfortably inside the box and on the top platform. I have found on other cat trees, even some of the Amarkat products, that the "houses" and platforms were a litte too small for larger cats to lie comfortably. Because the center of gravity is low on this tree, and the overall height is just under 5', it is pretty stable. As with all cat trees (including my other Amarkat, which is 6'), however, there is some wobbling when both cats play on it at the same time. But so far, it hasn't tipped over. Finally, I love Amarkat cat trees as a whole because they are sturdy products (with replaceable parts) at prices that are much more reasonable than other brands. Just make sure to shop around and buy from online stores like AllPetFurniture (or even from[...]), rather than directly from [...] or you will pay more. And it is also much cheaper to buy Amarkat trees online than in pet stores. Overall, other than the slight wobbliness and the need to periodically tighten the components, I love this cat tree! And my kitties are very happy with it."..." Read more

Just what my cat was looking for, she starting playing with it before it was fully assembled. I add the hanging string toys only when I'm around for supervision, instructions do say for display purposes only on those and I would be afraid of a cat hanging if left alone with it. Decent height, I didn't want anything too high because my cat is mostly blind. The fur wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I would say its more of a longer fiber length than thick, compared to the last armarkat that I purchased. Love the color. The only con is the construction time on the hideaway house part. Only the top and bottom are solid, the sides of the house are cloth (I wonder about its longevity). My last armarkat, the hideaway came pre-assembled and was hard sided all around. This one you have to line up posts blindly inside. Takes some time, but is worth it to have such a large hideaway. My last one was half the size of this hideaway house and my cats never used it. I was also concerned about the holes in the platform having an almost blind cat, but my cat has been navigating it well. There's another hole in the top of the house that I couldn't tell from the picture. My cat actually like attacking toys in the house from the top of it."..." Read more
