We have adopted a stray cat, or should I say, he as adopted us! We have two indoor cats and know that our new little man would not be content indoors having lived his whole life (3 years the vet says) outdoors.
We wanted to make sure that, being an outdoor cat, that he had someplace warm and dry on those cold andor rainy days. We looked at all the pet stores and found only HUGE plastic houses for dogs. Not a one to be found for cats. Not a one. And we live in a big city with access to almost any store. I also check Doctors Foster and Smith and they had nothing.
I was thrilled to have found this house specifically for cats with a heated pad to boot. There was a little fiddling required to get the roof attached on one side but it eventually came together. The electrical cord is wrapped in wire to prevent it from being chewed.
It has two entrances so that if an interloper were to come in at our boy, he could slip out the back. Weve placed the house up on a table on a driveway which goes under our porch with the entrances perpendicular to the way the wind flows. It is lightweight so am not sure if it would stay in place if a really heavy wind came along. So, weve got it sandwiched between a grill and a glider to shield it a bit.
Im happy to have this. I felt that the price was in line compared to what Id seen for the dog houses in the stores around here.
The pad puts out a very gentle heat which you can feel if you push your hand on the pad. My first thought was that it wasnt warm enough, but when combined with the body heat of the cat snuggled on top, Im sure it is probably sufficient. In fact, we can tell when the cat has been in the house as one side is warm and toasty."..." Read more
