Pros: Padded sleeve for laptops and tables. The bottom is padded by the rain cover so if you take it out the bottom my not have a lot of padding for your electronics. The compartment side padding looks adequate for normal use but not as good as it could be, just don't through your bag on the ground and it should be fine. The padded hip belt is a nice feature. The padding help shift most of the packs weight to your hip instead of your back/shoulders. The outer material is water resistant so you don't need to immediately worry about getting the backpack covered. That being said the material does feel thin and I don't know how long it will take to wear it out. The padding for your back feels very nice and is supportive and comfortable. Cons: The strap padding on the shoulder straps is not very substantial. For light loads it is very comfortable but if the backpack is weighed down it is uncomfortable. This pack is listed as being hydration compatible but there isn't a hole for the water tube for accessibility. Thoughts: this pack as 3 compartments. 1: is the main large compartment the runs the height of the pack. It contains that laptop sleeve and room for other stuff. 2: is a compartment for things like pens, pencils, cell phone, cables. It is almost as deep as the main compartment but about half the width. 3: is a small pouch for small items. There are ice pick loops and other attachment points for camping gear. Over all this appears to be a good backpack for day trips, day hikes, and travel, but I would not recommend it for students do to the lack of shoulder padding.
