This ledge is a favorite place for our chinchilla to perch. Since chinchillas originally lived in the mountains, they like to perch and be up high. This ledge provides an easy way to give a perch to your pet. It's sturdy and can stand up to chinchilla's chewing. I bought the med. size and had to take them out of the cage cause one of my rats almost got caught in the little circle window. That was my fault though for buying the wrong size, buy the larger size if your buying for rats or a bigger pet. This is a nice addition to the Premium + hutch. It gives some hopping space since the hutch itself really doesn't have much room, even for one bunny. It can be used as a separate cage if you put the open side against a wall (currently using it like this until my 2 rabbits are bonded). It has a nice cedar-y smell and looks nice, but be forewarned, your bun will take a few bites out of it and ruin that pristine appearance. Provide lots of other chew toys for them and it might not be a problem. I wish the little metal doorways were taller and wider though and extended further down. It would be easier to get in to pet your rabbit. Also, the wires on the bottom and top of the doorways are very sharp. The top opens in a butterfly fashion, which is good for getting out a litterbox, etc. I'm not very tall, so trying to lean in through the roof is a little hard for getting bowls and things. The pen was very easy to put together, but it is very lightweight and flimsy. I have it in the house and would not recommend it for outside use unless you were going to lock your bun in the hutch at night, since that is more sturdy. A raccoon, dog or other predator could easily get into this. Overall it's a good item to use with the hutch if you don't let your rabbit out to run around often (which they ultimately need)."..."  Read more
