Buffets vs. Sideboards
Because they're both used to store household items, such as table linens, dining accessories, and china, today, buffet and sideboard tables are used interchangeably. The main difference between them is where they are used in the home.
- When it's place in the living room, it's called a sideboard.
- When this table is used in a dining room, it's called a buffet. Traditionally, buffets in the dining room are not only used for their storage purposes but also to display meals before serving.
- When a cabinet is added to the top of a buffet for additional storage and display options, the piece is called a hutch.
- Although most folks associate this type of furniture with the dining room or living room, it is, in fact, very versatile and can be used as extra storage in any space from the foyer to the bedroom.
