A temporary or quick fix for an empty wall space, wall decals add a (mark-free!) layer of interest to any space. Made out of laminated paper or matte vinyl, wall decals feature one-sided adhesive patterns available in wall borders, murals, custom cut-outs, and words or sayings. Types of themed decals include: nature (trees, flowers, and animals), words/phrases, sports, and kid themes (princesses and planes). Simply pick out a decal that complements the rest of your decor, whether it's a quirky animal decal for a playroom or a chalkboard decal for an office space, the decal choices are endless. To start, make sure you have the right supplies.
Things you'll need:
Water for cleaning the wall
Pencil for marking (optional)
Rubber squeegee (if not included)
Once you've picked out the right spot on your wall, follow these five how-to steps for best results:
How To Apply a Wall Decal:
Step 1: Clean the surface of the wall by wiping away any dirt or dust using a damp cloth or sponge. Make sure the wall is dry before you begin to apply the decal.
Step 2: Place the decal in the desired location with the vinyl against the wall and the paper backing facing you. If necessary, a level can be used to ensure the decal is even.
Step 3: Smooth the surface and eliminate any air bubbles with a squeegee. Start at the top of the decal and work your way down. Repeat twice to ensure the decal is free of air bubbles and is securely adhered to the wall.
Step 4: Carefully peel the paper backing from the decal. To do this, you'll want to start at one of the top corners and slowly peel back at a 45-degree angle until it's all removed. Step 5: And, voila! The wall decal will stay up until you're ready for a change.
If the paper backing is stuck to any piece of the decal, simply dampen a paper towel with water until it's lightly saturated. This will help release the decal from the paper backing.
