Good Value & Great Looking

Kelly from Cypress, TX– Verified Buyer

I hesitated before purchasing this file cabinet after reading the other user reviews... In the end I decided to give it a shot because this was exactly what I was looking for as far as style and the price was low enough I figured it was worth the risk.

The delivery was on time, but when my son opened the box to put it together for me, one of the pieces was damaged. I called the toll free number and the person who helped me was kind and efficient, she apologized and said they would send the replacement piece. It arrived as promised and undamaged. :)

My son put it together. He said it wasn't as bad as some of the reviews made it sound, but he agreed that it would be nice if a few of the pieces had been preassembled. The drawers are a little finicky (at one point the top drawer wouldn't close), but we have gotten accustomed to how it behaves and it works fine as long as we use it gently.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase. It looks really great once it's put together and I can't argue with the value considering the price I paid.

Nice looking piece of furniture lengthy assembly

Ian from Albany, OH– Verified Buyer

My wife was looking for a file cabinet that would better match her home office decor than the beige metal file cabinet that she was using and chose this lateral file cabinet from Bush Industries. The package arrived in good shape and was very heavy- over 100 pounds. I was disappointed to see that the cabinet is constructed entirely from MDF or pressboard, although it is thick and resembles real wood once assembled. Assembly took about an hour and a half, but if you're not experienced in assembling furniture like this then it may take longer than that to put together. Some parts, such as the glides that allow the drawers to slide in and out smoothly were not preinstalled although I felt that they could have been- this lengthens the assembly process. I was able to assemble it by myself but there were some assembly steps that would have been easier if two people were present. I did have some problems with the locking mechanism that keeps both drawers from opening at the same time- it wasn't engaging the bottom drawer properly and was preventing the drawer from closing fully. I removed the locking mechanism, instructed my wife not to open both drawers at the same time, and it seems to be fine. I love the way this piece looks- the finish is very good. Also, it is nice that this cabinet can accommodate either letter or legal size hanging file folders. For the money, this is a great file cabinet, but if you are looking for furniture constructed out of solid wood, this will disappoint you.

Very nice for the price

Bradley from Longview, TX– Verified Buyer

The piece is solid and heavy. The assembly is slightly involved but fairly easy. It took about 2 hours total. It has an "antique" black finish to the sides and front which is what we were expecting. It can take 2 rows of letter files per drawer or 1 row of legal size filing. I took 1 star off because there is a slight crack that shows the underlying unstained wood and one of the drawers had a piece broken off near the back. The broken piece was easily repaired with glue and since it was inside the drawer I don't care much. The package was quite solid and tons of foam so I'm not sure any more packing would have prevented the break, I think it was more that it's veneer and the wood there was a little more fragile.

I would buy again

Not bad!

Chazz from Melbourne, FL

I just put this together in about 3 hours. I made a couple of mistakes so I had to disassemble and reassemble portions along the way. The drawings are not 100 clear but ALL the parts were well labeled. The design is decent but it is made out of MDF or particle board like similar Bush products.

Quality control was a bit lacking. All the dowel pins just fell right into the holes- no hammer needed! Should have been a transition fit. Also there was a tool mark on the front of one of the drawers that made it through the whole manufacturing process and had the finish just put right over it. Most people wouldnt notice it but I did. You can see it and feel it. I may ask them to send me another drawer face.

After I assembled the unit, everything worked fine. No problems with drawers as some people mentioned. They slid in easily.

I would buy the product again as it is good design and construction for the price and decent quality. It looks good from 3 feet away. I have a printer sitting on top of it so it works as a printer stand and file drawer for me.

Very nice for the price

Kacia from Batavia, OH– Verified Buyer

For the price this is a great file cabinet. It looks very nice once assembled. The first one took me about 2 hours to assemble and the 2nd cabinet took about 1.5 hours to assemble. The assembly time was not due to difficulty, but because there are so many pieces and the instructions are not perfect. Also, I must say the cabinet as a whole is so heavy I don't think we will ever be moving it out of the room where it was assembled. We had to carry the individual pieces up to the room we wanted the cabinet and assemble it in place. The drawer bottoms are a bit thin, and they seem a bit wobbly in the tracks, but they function just fine even with the drawers full. This is not a high end piece of furniture, but I would recommend this item for the price.

Love my new file cabinet

Maureen from Long Beach, NY– Verified Buyer

I really was pleasantly surpised and happy with the quality of this piece. My husband was kind enough to tackle putting it together. It looked daunting with its many pieces and screws and it took him about 2 hours to put it together. I would have given 5 stars except that when my husband was unpacking the pieces there was wrapping tape across the top and part of the finish came off when he removed the tape. I didn't report it because I didn't want to send it back. I covered patch with wood colored furniture pencil. Nice sturdy functional piece of furniture for the money.

great product for the price

Lori from McLean, VA

This is the best lateral file I have seen for the price. It is more than comparable to other "DIY" office furniture; I put it together by myself with no problems. (I will say that I think it's fun to do puzzles!)

Do follow the directions carefully (read them through first--make sure you are using the right screws), and don't overtighten the screws.
The drawer bottoms are not designed to hold heavy objects, and you might want to find a way to keep the file support brackets from sliding (even putting some black duct tape underneath might help this).
But all the problems I read here in the other reviews did not materialize.
It isn't a $500-$1000 filing cabinet; I have one of those, but it's ugly!!! This one is very stylish and doesn't take up a lot of space. I don't expect it would stand up to extremely heavy use, but it's not overly frail; just use common sense, and don't let any 300-pound people jump on it.
One thing that may become a problem is that the drawers will open when I use just one of the handles, but I can kind of feel it torquing a bit; in the long run that could be a problem, so I would recommend using both handles when you open the drawer--or just be sure to pull judiciously and not yank it.
Otherwise I am very happy with this product. One thing to note for this and all other furniture of this type: be careful of the surface where you assemble it. I wasn't, and I ended up scratching the front of the drawer. However, a black Sharpie covered it right up with no problem!

Great buy and looks great!

Luella from Forsyth, GA

I just love this piece of furniture. I am using it in my office, but it would look nice wherever you use it.
It was a little confusing on some of the directions but we made it through with 2 of us working on it. We called the help line and they were very courteous in trying to help us about the time we figured it out.
It is a great buy and looks great.

Pros: Great value and finish.
Cons: The instructions need to be a little clearer on how to separate the guides for the drawers.

Attractive cabinet

Marylee from Bloomfield, NY– Verified Buyer

Purchased two units and am very pleased with the results. Yes, they took a while to assemble. I've purchased unassembled furniture before and knew, if you take your time, familiarize yourself with the parts list and READ the instructions (men), they'll turn out fine! The drawers glide smoothly and I love the pull handles. These are pretty sturdy and attractive pieces for the price. I am considering buying more.

2 Drawer Cabinet

Ed from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA– Verified Buyer

We looked for quite awhile for a 2 drawer file cabinet, this unit popped up on sale. Heavy, yes.
Assembly was easy enough, few faults in the instructions. I always glue these kind of projects together and also used longer screws for mounting the sides of the drawers to the rear section of the drawers. After assembling drawer recommend gluing in bottoms with wood glue or hot glue gun to fill gap of routed sections. Unit very sturdy and holds plenty of files.
