This loft bed set is neither too large nor too small, with a bit of room to grow. Our daughter's room is tiny, and this unit provides much needed space. She creates adventures and micro-environments for toys using the many different storage locales within her new "fort-bed". I think she lived in it for the first three days after it was assembled, she was so enamored of it. Kids will absolutely enjoy the additional storage and uniqueness of this type of loft bed. The area under the bed has become the favorite hang-out for play and TV viewing (through the shelving unit).Assembly was easy but very time consuming,[...]. This is not a single afternoon job for the handy-man, rather an entire day for two. It's very heavy, so two people are required to align the bed unit onto the support casings.Now for the not-so-great: Two weeks after assembly, the off-gassing began, burning our daughter's throat. During the good-weather days we'd open the house to try to air it out, but it keeps releasing its irritating fumes. For now we're using an ionic air filter to conteract the fine whitish particulates that have appeared in her room. We're over three weeks into this and hope it stops soon. Our standard computer hangs over the edge of the desk and seems to be holding fine. We're a bit leery because this laminated engineered wood doesn't look as though it will last, but it's not sagging yet.The laminate scratches relatively easily. My 11 year old daughter loves this bed. The bottom bed is on small casters, so it rolls out for easy bed making. Of course the top bunk is always a pain no matter what kind you buy! It's sturdy, the desk is a nice feature. It gives the bedroom plenty of extra space since her room is rather small. The corners of the desk are a little sharp, add a rubber corner piece to avoid cutting your leg getting in and out. It's the only flaw I've found with the bed. Was a bit time consuming to assemble, but well worth the money. If the mattresses come free with it that are the Super Sleep Smooth Top Twin Innerspring Mattresses, be prepared to buy new ones. These are basically springs covered in cloth. I didn't expect them to be high quality since they came free with our bed as a promotion, but they are truly AWEFUL!!! Just buy the bed, get a couple of new mattresses from your local store and you'll be very happy with this setup."..." Read more

My husband and I were really impressed with the quality and attention to detail on the desk and bookcase; however, they seemed to forget to carry that attention to the top bed. It's stable and safe, but the quality of the pieces weren't as good, the bottom of the boards aren't finished so if you are in the bottom bed or under the top bed you can see unfinished wood, and they didn't provide cap covers for large screws which they had provided for the base pieces. Overall, it's still a great deal. Very nice looking piece. We got it for our 10 years old son and instead of getting the twin bottom bed we set it up as a personal hang-out area for him. I find its better Quality the IKEA ones for sure. My son is only 3 but he only wants to sleep in his new bed and he loves what he calls his Man cave speeds hours in there playing whit his toys.
