I love this bunk bed for the most part. I purchased it for my 4 yr. old and 1 1/2yr. old. The younger one is still in a crib, but transitioning into the bunk bed. He will be using the lower bunk. I love how sturdy it is, doesn't wobble, it is thick, has a beautiful finish. I had looked at others since we are on a very tight budget and decided to take a risk and purchase this one. I am glad I did. Given the price I think it is a steal compared to other places for around this price range for the quality you receive. Now for the cons, they're not all that big, since I would still purchase this set in a heartbeat. For starters, I don't like the wide gaps on the bottom frame of both bunks. The part that would support the mattress. I wish they were either wider pieces of wood, or more pieces. I'm still kinda skeptical with these kids as to how it will hold up. Also, given that this bunk bed is more for younger children, they get into everything, literally. I love that this bed has a beautiful finish, but for both bunks, the pieces of wood that hold the mattress, they are not even sanded, so you must be careful of splinters. Why leave everything else nice, but that. Also, it would be nice to have clearer instructions, as it took us a while to figure it out. Definantly separate all your screws before starting. It caused a hole on our top bunk for using a screw that looked nearly identical to the one that should have been used. They should come separated and labeled according to where they will be used. Also, I didn't really like the fact that on the top bunk they have some stickers that are warning/reference labels that should not be removed. It makes the bed look ugly. But my oldest son got into it, ripped a huge part off, and now looks uglier. But with small children and them being boys I don't expect much. I rather their safety above all, and I definantly feel it with this particular bunk bed set. I would like to have had more security securing the ladder, but we'll see what we can do. It attaches with two very small screws. We are missing one so we will try to go down to the hardware store to replace it. But above all, I still would recommend it. I just wish the manufacturer could make some minor improvements. P.S. There are solid rods that hold the bunks together. They are rather short, so be careful. If your kids are strong enough, they could keep trying to lift the top bunk from the bottom. It would be nice to be able to secure it better or for it to have larger rods in place making it more difficult for them to move it."..."  Read more

I researched, looked at, pondered, agonized about a decent twin over full bunk bed that could handle my daughter and myself in a small space. I found this particular bed and immediately liked the open "ranch" style vs the multiple bars/slats of the "mission" style. I looked at, pondered and agonized some more due to horrible reviews (mostly all regarding horrendous customer service from the manufacturer)and after reading other reviews for other beds (again almost all regarding horrendous customer service from the manufacturer)I decided to bite the bullet and purchase this one. Here are my thoughts/experiences: 1. I had no problem with the shipping and there were no issues with any of the pieces such as improper drilling, wrong size, etc. 2. The quality of the material is outstanding! This bed is made from real wood and it is very solid but surpisingly not heavy. All the screws and hardware are metal so the bed is sturdy. I chose the brown/walnut finish (much to my daughter's disappointment), and it is beautiful. It is a nice medium brown that does not hide the grain and a classic match to most walnut finishes I have seen. I put it on furniture casters for ease of movement anyway so that I can pull it away from the wall when necessary to make it easier to change the bedding. 3. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. My dad (who is not particularly mechanically-inclined) started doing the simple stuff to prep the bed before actually setting it up--assembling the head/footbaords, ladder, etc. (of course my daughter had to "supervise"). He probably spent a grand total of 5-6 hours to do it all over about three days. You will need at least two people to install the top bunk on the frame, but it is lightweight and easy to do. I would recommend you do not fully assemble the ladder--a deviation from the instructions. We learned it is much easier to install the lower piece, put your mattress in and then afix the rest of the ladder to the frame. It beats trying to move a heavy full-size mattress around a fixed ladder! The pieces of the bed are clearly marked so you can easily match which board goes where when advised to. The kit comes with an allen-wrench tool but dad recommends you use a drill with the appropriate bit if possible. So much faster! 4. Other reviews noted the full-size slats were not wide enough on the frame. They must have fixed this problem because mine fit perfectly fine on both the twin and full-size beds. I like the fact that the slats are actually screwed down to the frame so there's no chance of slipping. To be cautious, I did put plywood boards over both sets of slats to spread the weight and pressure over a wider surface. The manufacturer specs say this bed will support up to at least 250 lbs on both the top and bottom so the board helps make sure my mattress and weight will not break my bed (lol!). 5. The ladder IS interchangeable. Another "major" site that specializes in selling bunk beds advised me the ladder will only go on one side but the instructions include how to put it on either side. I was thrilled because I needed the ladder to go on the opposite end of where it is always pictured. It also has an L-bracket you cannot see in the photos that futher attaches it to the bed frame so I have no doubts whatsoever of the security of the ladder and my monkey-child going up and down it. Once completely set up, this is a very solid and sturdy bed. The lines are simple and pleasing. There is room between the bunks for an adult to manuever comfortably--not sit up completely--but when laying on my back I can extend my arm almost fully before touching the top bunk. That's probably my fault because I do have a pillow-top mattress and it has a taller profile. I did get a small clip-on lamp to provide extra light since it is too dark under there to read. Thank you for taking the time to read my long and rambling review. In one simple sentence, I really like my bed."..."  Read more

I am really happy with this bed. If you've never had or like me this is your first purchase of a bunkbed system, here are some things you should know about this bed in particular. It was as easy to put together that I can imagine a bed can be. The bed comes with wood pieces (under mattress support) that are stapled together to a white thick piece of plastic so you can easily roll it out onto the platform of the bed and drill the screws right in. I would suggest following the instructions and setting up the TOP bunk FIRST. We diverted and set up the bottom bed first and of course then in order to drill the screws into the platform of the top bunk it's harder because you have to climb and do alot of unnecessary arm stretching. Also, the stairs do come to the floor and the bottom of the stairs reach about two feet away from the bed. My son's room is fairly small and it is still fine. We do not use the stair however because my son is 3 1/2 (climbs) and my daughter is 14 months (climbs) so we actually just store in underneath the bottom bunk. Please note that the two drawers for this bed are not actually attached to the bed (and this may be for the better if you have small children like us). I forget if they have wheels or not but they do sit prettily and evenly with the base of the bottom bunk, they're just not attached. What we did is (because, again, we have climbers in the house) is just push these further under the bed so that my kids don't pull them out and climb onto them and this worked out perfectly for us. Would defintely recommend this bed, and an excellent price."..."  Read more

I purchased the bunkbeds for my 2 younger boys and they are thrilled to death about it. I didn't assembe it myself- I hired a carpenter to do it. There is no way i would sleep soundly with my kids sleeping in a bed that I'd put together! The carpenters did have a little trouble getting it up, but it looks great. I don't know if it was the carpenter's fault or the construction of the bed itself, but the drawers underneath slide all the way back instead of staying flush to the front of the bed. The only thing- be careful on the stairs if you have younger kids. My 15 month old LOVES to climb the stairs and shimmy off the stairs between the two bunks instead of climbing back down. It scares me to death, but he hasn't gotten hurt once and he does it a million times every day! My 4 year old immediately ran up to claim the top bed as "his bed". Everyone thought the fight would be over having the bottom bunk as it is the bigger bed, but that is not the case. My 15 month old will eventually move from his crib in my bedroom to the bottom bunk.... at which time my 12 year old will be upset because he has been sleeping on the bottom bunk since we got the bed a month ago. This is very upsetting to me because I had redone his bedroom first and he has totally neglected it to sleep in his little brother's room! [...]I also had thought the stairs would be on the right, they are to the left of the bed, so that made me have to reconfigure the design I'd come up with for the room- but it looks great.I love the novelty of the stairs instead of the ladder and my son is so happy to go to bed now.... that alone is a miracle!"..."  Read more
