Briefcases

My wife is a project coordinator for a nonprofit organization, and I bought this (with a Sony Viao 15.6" laptop inside) as her graduation present. Her initial reaction was that it was pretty big - and that's true. It fits the 15.6" widescreen laptop just fine, and she can put the accessories and a binder or two in the additional pockets. It took her all of three days to get over the size (the shoulder strap works great for her, she rarely uses the rollers), and she rarely goes anywhere work-related without it. In addition to that, her mom, her boss, and several co-workers want one, and asked where I found it. It's very good quality leather, the print is distinct, but all the same color - it's just a cherry red with raised croc-leather patterning. I'd call it a semi-gloss, not quite a gloss - which is just perfect as far as sheen on leather goes. The stitching is strong, I don't see any pulls or popped seams anywhere after two whole months of constant use, and the only scuff she put on the bottom of the briefcase was easily mended. Leather doesn't appear to have taken any damage from it. If I could give half a star, I may be tempted to go for 4.5, if only because the seldom-used wheel+handle system is not as solidly made as I would have wanted. Granted, for a flattened-oval-shaped telescoping handle, it's an acceptable balance between compactness and rigidity. The button for telescoping it out and back in again was a little sticky on this particular one, but not to any significant degree. Overall, this is what I was looking for (as far as price, durability, quality, function, and style), and what my wife wanted (fashion, red croc leather, function, portability). This is a big, rich leather dispatch / computer case with refined but thick, full grain leather, that still manages to be suprisingly light weight. The absence of a true padded laptop compartment is easily remedied, and this is the best case I could find anywhere, by far, in this style. A very nice feature I haven't seen in cases of this style, is that the case maintains a firm, square-framed inner compartment that keeps files and papers neat--though built-in file folder dividers, as I had in my old case, would have been better and made the case less bulky. A now common feature is the zippered, pass-through compartment on the back side, which allows easy attachment to the handle of a wheeled suitcase. Nice idea, but flawed: just when you need that back compartment for easy access, you've lost it because the suitcase handle is going through it. Surely there's a better solution--perhaps a smaller, outer, zippered pass through pocket, on the back of the large existing one. In fact, in general the real downside is the lack of multiple separate zipper compartments--the more the better, in my view. My previous case was far superior in that regard, though the quality of this case is far superior. But what happened to all those great pockets?!!! Still, this is the best one out there in the flapover, dispatch case style; nothing else comes close. And the price is very reasonable for what you get. One last comment: why on earth are manufacturers including fancy nylon covers for briefcases? I'm finding good uses for it, but they could have saved the money and used it for a few more compartments / pockets!!!"..."  Read more

I am a Field Data Collector, so in addition to a laptop, power cord, & mouse, I also carry several files, various forms, a caluclator, a large stapler, highlighters, envlopes, sticky notes....and this bag does the job! Since the front flap is large vs. small accessory sized pockets, it allows more room for files/forms, so there are actually 3 areas for this, plus there is an inside zippered area for small accessories. The inside is somewhat expandable, so don't be hesitant because of the advertised 5 inch deep measurement, (I was!) It is absolutely beautiful, a deep cherry color, classy, & does indeed bring lots of comments and compliments! The zippers are quality/heavy duty, the wheels are sturdy, the bag rolls well down the aisle of the plane, & fits in the overhead bin with ease. My only concern is that the expanding handle does not feel as 'stationed' as I would like, but there are just too many pros as well as the limited lifetime warranty for me to stress over this!"..."  Read more

I got this in black for my daughter-in-law who is pregnant and transports a lot of her business work, so a rolling case made sense for her. The bag itself is very attractive and is a very nice quality soft leather. It has a lot of compartments for storage and is roomy but not too big. The biggest selling point for me was the fact that the briefcase is detachable from the base and you can carry it alone using its sturdy handles or shoulder strap. The base is very solid and the wheels roll very smoothly. The handle telescopes and is fairly sturdy. It extends easily but I had to wiggle it a little to get it down all the way. Removing the case from the base is a little bit of a ruckus, it's not difficult but there are several zippers to unzip and then you just have to remember what to do to get it re-attached. It comes with a nylon cover you can use if it's raining, no big deal but a nice accessory. It's a beautiful bag and very functional. I'm very pleased with the purchase."..."  Read more
