Briefcases

I am an attorney and I bought this because it is not real big, yet it is not too small to carry several expanded multi divider files or a 2-3 inch binder with indexed pleadings. It also does not have internal dividers, which I have had nothing but briefcases with dividers and I was tired of them. This has more refreshing simplicity that I really like. I have larger brief cases for my trials or more voluminous materials. It won't work for holding all your trial materials, but for daily courtroom drama featuring short hearings, it is a fabulous briefcase. The straps can be adjusted and each has a quick release for getting things in or out when going through courthouse scanners/metal detectors or for grabbing that calculator to figure out that judgment amount you are about to get against your opponent. The construction is very good, with thick leather that ages gracefully as it picks up nicks and scratches. This briefcase is not only well made, it looks well made and has a look that is a throwback to the 40's, 50's and 60's tough leather cases that used to be ubiquitous among doctors and lawyers. I would recommend treating it once with Propert's Boot Cream or another suitable leather cleaner/conditioner. My wife is a project coordinator for a nonprofit organization, and I bought this (with a Sony Viao 15.6" laptop inside) as her graduation present. Her initial reaction was that it was pretty big - and that's true. It fits the 15.6" widescreen laptop just fine, and she can put the accessories and a binder or two in the additional pockets. It took her all of three days to get over the size (the shoulder strap works great for her, she rarely uses the rollers), and she rarely goes anywhere work-related without it. In addition to that, her mom, her boss, and several co-workers want one, and asked where I found it. It's very good quality leather, the print is distinct, but all the same color - it's just a cherry red with raised croc-leather patterning. I'd call it a semi-gloss, not quite a gloss - which is just perfect as far as sheen on leather goes. The stitching is strong, I don't see any pulls or popped seams anywhere after two whole months of constant use, and the only scuff she put on the bottom of the briefcase was easily mended. Leather doesn't appear to have taken any damage from it. If I could give half a star, I may be tempted to go for 4.5, if only because the seldom-used wheel+handle system is not as solidly made as I would have wanted. Granted, for a flattened-oval-shaped telescoping handle, it's an acceptable balance between compactness and rigidity. The button for telescoping it out and back in again was a little sticky on this particular one, but not to any significant degree. Overall, this is what I was looking for (as far as price, durability, quality, function, and style), and what my wife wanted (fashion, red croc leather, function, portability). The product was everything I hoped for and more. It was purchased as a birthday gift for my husband who will be retiring in a year. I wish I had found it much earlier in his career as it has a very professional look, unlike the local department store briefcases he has always used. He sufferes with some shoulder pain, so lugging his regular briefcase through airports was becoming very difficult. He mentioned he saw a lady who had one on rollers that he really liked. I just started searching on line, but everything that was a resonable price was black, which I really wanted to get away from. I had this idea of a beautiful congnac color, so just kept searching, until I found your site. When I saw the one I ended up purchasing I was thrilled and only hoped it looked half as good as the picture(I did NOT want brown). Well, as stated it was even better. The soft quality and rich color were amazing. He was so happy when he saw it. As he was filling it, he decided to "lightened" his load so it did not looked stuffed like his old one,(though there was plenty of room to put all of his stuff and more),so he felt he would not need the rollers for his day to day actions. This was a concern initially as we felt we would probably struggle with getting them on and off. WRONG! The zippers are very sturdy and unzip with ease. The rollers go off and on very quickly. The price for the quality was a blessing as well. Sometimes it seems you have to sacrifice beautiful quality because of the cost. Not so in this case. Thank you so much for making my first purchase with your company a success and making my husband (of 40 years!)happy. In fact, since I am younger than him and will need to work for a few more years, I may just purchase another one for myself even though I don't do travel for work! I'm an attorney and use this bag for paperwork, computer, and files. The top opens nicely and stays open. The leather is high quality and has a scratch-resistant finish. Unlike some other bags, this bag will not "break-in" the same & won't take on a very distinct "character." This is due to the way the leather is made. If you like a clean look, this is a good bag for you. But if you want a bag that will develop character and look worn-in, I would recommend the Jack Georges Belting brief bag. Note that if you have the additional strap, Jack Georges will add a piece of leather on the side with a metal loop. In my opinion, this detracts from the bag's clean look. I deliberated awhile about the strap and concluded that, even fully loaded and heavy, the bag is still manageable for medium travel distances, such as from the car to office or from walks around the city. But if you are an extensive traveler, you may want the shoulder strap. I just think the bag is too nice looking to have a shoulder strap, personally, and deal with my arm getting tired when I carry it longer distances. The hardware is high-quality nickel. The front strap opens and closes in a sturdy fashion and with ease. The nylon liner is also nice and helps keep the weight down (as opposed to suede). The bag is spacious and will carry all the important stuff. Like I said before, the bag opens widely and stays open. The leather is stiff and gives it a very secure, stable feel. The bag is slightly bigger than it appears in the pictures. Jack Georges website has a picture of someone holding the bag, which gives you a better idea of its size and shape. The bag also does not curve as much on the sides as it appears to in the picture. It has a very nice shape. I gave four stars not because there's something I didn't like about the bag, but rather because I'm sure there're nicer bags out there if you want to spend $1,000+. So this is a GREAT bag for only $400. I would certainly recommend this for any attorney."..."  Read more
