I ordered two of these bookcases. [...]The instructions for putting the shelves together are clear. You do not need special tools, but a power drill to turn the screws will make it faster and simpler. Having a second person helps but isn't absolutely necessary. Being fit enough to get on the floor and bend around into the shelf IS necessary.Just be aware that there are some minor limits on the heights of the shelves; you can't have any extremely short or tall shelf spaces. Your shelf openings will generally be 11" to 14". This is fine for notebooks, quartos, and file boxes.Once constructed, the bookcases are very sturdy, and they hold lots of books and file boxes well. They look good in my office. I also love the steel construction -- no nauseating off-gassing from particleboard or lacquer. These should be much easier to recycle when that day comes, too.
