I have purchased six of these for various areas of my home! For my children's rooms, which have wall-to wall carpeting, I built the bookcase without the set-back 3" tall base and it looks really good. In one of the rooms I placed two side by side and the effect is great. For hallway areas with marble floors I included the 3" high base with very nice results. It is a very stable and handsome bookcase, with minimal and elegant design lines and is compatible with a wide variety of design settings , from traditional to contemporary.
