About the Designer
Blu Dot furniture (born in 1997) was founded by John Christakos, Charles Lazor, and Maurice Blanks. The firm began as a loose collaboration of three college friends trained in architecture and art, based on the premise that design should be affordable. The partners chose furniture as the subject of interest and opened a studio and operations in Minneapolis in 1996. Blu Dot has begun to realize their vision with a collection of over 40 furniture pieces that are both elegantly abstract and unambiguously functional. Blu Dot pieces are in the permanent collections of several museums, have been seen on the sets of well-known television shows such as Friends and ER, and have won numerous national and international awards. The furniture collection is distributed around the world.

Most comfortable Blu Dot sleeper sofa; fabric not particularly durable

I needed to buy this because a standard sofa wouldn't fit through my entryway. Since this one has a really cool mechanism to fold out to a queen size bed, it ends up being the size of a queen mattress, which did fit. It's comfortable for those who like to sit upright and like a firm seat. The other Blu Dot sleeper sofa (One Night Stand) is really, really firm. The seat cushion is on the shorter side--I can't sit Indian-style on it, though I can cuddle with my boyfriend on it (we're both thin). The build quality is slightly below that of a Crate and Barrel sofa at a similar price point. But if you like the design of the sofa and need the fold out mechanism, I think it's worth it.
Emergency use only

Couch is slim, so goes up narrow stairs easily. It looks nice, but the seating area is very short and high, so you feel like you're sitting on a booster seat. The bed opens up just by flipping the top part over, so its converting it to sleeper mode is a snap. Once in sleeper mode, one half is rock hard, and the other feels like you're laying on a hammock. Im afraid of tearing the fabric! Overall a nice looking couch for a spare room you MIGHT use as a guest room from time to time. I would not try to sleep on it on a regular basis.

This couch is comfortable open or closed. Our guests love staying on it. The fabric looks high quality as well.

This is a nice sofa and hits the spot in many ways - classy looking and practical as a guest sleeper. Not terribly comforatble for long sitting - very hard cushinng and narrow - but taken together - works well for my neeeds as a extra sleeper for a small apartment.
