At that time, futons were still a novelty. Small specialty outfits made either frames or mattresses, but not both. As a furniture company, Big Tree Furniture knew there was a better way. They wanted to make it easy for you to buy a fine quality futon, so Big Tree Furniture created a complete futon package—futon frame, mattress and cover. (Of course, you can also purchase the frames and mattresses separately.)
Big Tree Furniture was the first to raise futon frames to sofa height, for greater ease and comfort. Big Tree Furniture is at the forefront of new developments in futon frame styles and mattress technology, and they're proud to be one of the few U.S. frame manufacturers employing American workers.

The quality is bad and definitely not equal to the price. If I had paid half as much I might have expected some of the problems it has. The worst thing was the quality of the packing and shipping. It came with a 2"x2" hole in the box where something had broken through and rubbed all the finish off of the front face of one of the long rails. Then I found a staple that had been shot through the veneer in the wrong place and into the groove in which the plastic guides have to ride. I had to grind the staple out with a Dremel tool. Then I had to take a box cutter and remove a lot of wood that was obviously supposed to be machined out of the guide grooves but was not. Then I had to touch up the finish on the grooves both where I had used the cutter, but also just where they didn't stain inside the grooves ---which are exposed when it's in the sofa position. Then there were small things like the mattress quilting ties that were tied with the knots on the outside and lots of little touch-ups on the corners of the legs where the finish had been put on unevenly or rubbed off at some point. Good thing it's really simple to understand how to put it together because the instructions have mistakes. Really poor quality at any price.
