I hesitated to purchase the Newport Platform bedroom set for [$] sight unseen, since it would be a major hassle if I'd hated it! But after reading 20+ positive reviews & comparing furniture store prices with online prices, I took the plunge & ordered the platform bed, 2-drawer bedside table, and the 5-drawer dresser, and couldn't be happier with my selection. The workmanship is excellent, everything works flawlessly and I've found no imperfections. The dresser & bedside table comes with both pewter/silver & red knobs for the drawers so you can switch them out according to your color scheme. I'm ordering the 1-drawer end table to complete the set since I like this furniture so much. The wood is made of tropical mahogany and has a rich, lustrous appearance, & a reddish hue that doesn't show up too well online. My friends & family are all envious of my new bedroom furniture. I've had the bedroom set over a month now and have had no negative issues. It took me almost a year to decide to buy this set, because i wanted the best quality, and very ornate antique design, and affordable price, since i was going to get more than just the bed and 2 night-stands. I'm glad I finally bought it! Both me and my husband are pleased. This set looks like in the picture, except the color is a bit darker in real life, which was no problem to us. The distressing on the furniture is very light (thank goodness). Make sure you take into account that now-days most companies don't make their bed sets fully in solid wood. Although it says it is, it's basically a combination of solid wood, veneers and MDF which is used inside drawers etc. 100% solid wood you can get only by custom order, and it will cost you several times more then this set. I have total of 7 pieces from this collection, all are very well made and gorgeous. We originally bought the Armoire, but the movers couldn't get the top part (comes in 2 parts) up the stairs and into our bedroom, so sadly we had to return it [...]! So make sure your stairs will accommodate this furniture. It is big and heavy. Measure before you order. Our stairs are pretty standard size, but it has 90 degree turn, so they couldn't get the furniture thru, and it was way too heavy to lift above the railing. The price here on Wayfairs website is the best i could find for this set, and believe me i searched a lot, both online and in the stores. Don't hesitate to buy this set, you won't regret it! 4 out of 5 stars because of cheap particle board. I assumed this bedroom set wouldn't be high quality materials, and I was correct. All wooden components appear to be particle board, but the construction is still sturdy. All drawers glide in/out smoothly. The look of the furniture alone is worth the price. It looks very elegant, and the faux granite looks surprisingly real. We were simply looking for a matching set of furniture and not the top-of-the-line hardwood, so this set fit our needs perfectly. The only negative comment I have about the look is the molding around the bottom of the nightstand, dresser, and chest. The corners of the molding were not cut to match one another like would be expected. The corners are the only thing that make the exterior of this furniture look cheap. However, this is not a glaring flaw, and I only noticed because I checked every square inch to verify no damage was caused during shipment. Assembly basically only included installing the handles for the drawers and attaching the mirror to the dresser. The assembly for the bed frame was a little tedious (approximately 19 screws), but the construction is great. I expected to see old-school style rails and expected to need wooden slats. However, traditional rails do not exist on this frame, and three left-to-right metal slats provide support for the foundation. Each metal slat has a "leg" that attaches to the center of each one. This provides a total of 7 contacts with the floor including the contact at each corner. The only negative thing I've seen with the bed is that is sits relatively low. The foundation is only about 5" off of the floor. The nightstand is 26" tall, and the model bed in the photos still sits about 2-3" inches below the nightstand. I have a 10" memory foam mattress sitting on a Tempur-Pedic foundation, and my bed appears to sit about 1" lower than the model in the photos. Wasn't a problem for me in the end, but it was still a surprise that the overall height was so low. Overall, this was a great purchase. Factor in the 10% discount that I was able to apply and this would definitely have to be considered a bargain. I'm an 18 year old female from California that recently moved here in Texas so I was really looking for a new beautiful bedroom set. I bought the platform, headboard, and nightstand. It took me about around 8 hours to build everything because I did it all by myself even though it says for each manual that you need about 2 people to build it. The step by step instructions will walk you through the whole thing in ease. As my very own opinion, if your bedroom is carpet and not wood floor, I suggest that you start building the platform on the side in which you will prefer to place it at. In the picture (as you can see), it's a wooden floor with a rug under the platform so it'll be easy to move but it's very hard to move on carpet. Moving and placing it was the only difficult part that I encountered. Alignment and screwing the platform was a bit frustrating because some screws didn't really line up well so you really have to be quite patient with this one. Couple small scratches on the bed platform but I covered it with a black marker or paint if you have them. Overall, it's a great set! (P.S. The mattress on the photo is a FULL SIZE which is the same as mine so if you have a Queen, it will not look like that.)"..."  Read more
