The Jim Morana Collection
In my work I expereince alternating cycles of creation and destruction, expansion and contraction. All forms are created and then destroyed and often rebuilt anew. It's during this phase that crazy, reckless risks are taken in the spirit of joy and adventure. During the creation cycle a beautiful mark is made knowing it will probably be destroyed. It is understood that evidence of that mark will always remain and that it will participate and demonstrate purpose in the whole. All forms are destroyed by sanding, scraping, painting over and violently smearing. During destruction, damage and injury are contemplated and offered salves of healing. This process of alternating cycles continues over and over until it exhausts itself. At that point, a natural peace and acceptance settle over the painting and it rests, finally complete.
