Art Wall, Steven Scott 'Ready to Blossom' Gallery-Wrapped Canvas 0 Have you ever noticed that you are always in conversation, even when there's no one around but the voices in your head? My art is about this conversational nature of our experience as human beings.
I don't know what dialogue a new painting is going to lead me into, I begin with a simple composition and paint spontaneously so that each face can reveal its own story. I love to pair warm and cool colors together because it creates visual tension that makes the art feel energetic and alive.
I'm particularly interested in the edge between abstraction and realism and my art challenges the viewer with the fundamental question of what makes a face, a face. The realism of the eyes is the obvious answer but I think it's the eyes in these paintings that not only draws the viewer in, but helps them feel grounded when trying to relate to an abstract image. The eyes not only turn the abstract into something familiar but they become the windows into the soul of the art itself.
I'm a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. I spent four years studying to be a fine art painter but discovered that I also had a passion for all things design and chose graphic design and product development as my career path. I've been a successful Minneapolis designer for more than thirty years.
