A LIFESAFER THIS SUMMER!! Kept us nice and cool =) from Carlsbad, CA on 11/30/2014 – Verified Buyer
I had purchased a larger Shinco A/C a few years ago this one is smaller and quieter and keep it just as cool if not cooler! I live in southern California and this past summer of 2014 it was HOT! I live in an apartment 1,300sf and this kept half of my apartment super cool. I placed it on my kitchen counter and purchased a 10mm plastic tube from home depot I ran it from the back of the unit into a plastic bottle that I kept on the floor in between the fridge and counter & I emptied the water from it every other day. It's very humid here since we're 4 miles from the beach and normally around 78% humidity if not more. I felt sorry for all my neighbors that had No A/C LOL poor guys and gals. My family and I were very comfortable all summer. I had two of these units running almost 24/7 & my monthly electric bill was around $220 which I don't think it's that bad for running them non-stop. I definitely would recommend the Shinco 11K BTU portable A/C to anyone! Love the design too, we named it R2D2 at home because it looks like a robot LOL Pros: easy to set up, small not bulky, cool design, love the remote control feature Cons: wish it came with the plastic 10mm tube (only $8 at home depot)

Good unit and great customer service from Wayfair from CA on 08/15/2012 – Verified Buyer
Recently moved into a place with no A/C and this past Saturday I realized I should have listened to my inner-voice instead of everyone else telling me it doesn’t get hot in this area. I was desperate for an A/C unit and since I can’t have a window or wall unit in my place, the portable was the only option. I looked in every local place that sells them and saw nothing but units that had bad reviews and some short-coming that would not work out. Then looked on-line and found this one. It has mostly good reviews and I needed something that has an exhaust system to fit my vertical sliding window and would not require draining every few hours. The room needing it most is my bedroom/office which is about 180 sq ft not including the attached full bath. This unit is a little bit overkill at 11,000 BTU, but I’m glad I got it. It has a slim footprint and a good deal less expensive than all the others I looked at. The window block fits my window in entirety and is also slim so it reduces eyesore. The exhaust hose has a huge diameter which is kind of cumbersome, but also reduces heat build-up and it takes a little longer for it to build up the heat. It also extends to over 5 feet. Sure, it’s noisy, but actually no more than a window unit set on High. However, when you can’t breathe and can’t sleep, noise is the least of your worries and white noise doesn’t bother me anyway so if needed, I can sleep with it on. I have a medical condition that doesn’t allow me to tolerate heat real well and anything over 80 degrees indoors is the danger zone for me. I must mention that Wayfair’s customer service is fabulous. I ordered this over the phone and not only was the service rep really good and helpful, but to my surprise the unit arrived the next day! You can’t beat that for free shipping! I hooked it up last night and tried it out. It cooled the room down from 82 to 75 degrees in 40 minutes! Not only did it cool the bedroom/office but even cooled the bathroom at the other end a few degrees! (I had a Maytag unit before and it took much longer to cool a smaller room, it was 9000 BTU so that has something to do with it). I know about heat being put back into the room from the unit running after a time from the exhaust hose, but I am ready because all you have to do is wrap the hose a little in either foiled insulation or Bubble Cushion. (Bubble Cushion is actually a good insulator in this application). It also recycles it's own condensation water to cool the motor making draining far less a requirement except for storage and if you live in a very humid area. I also saw that this unit is made here in the US so it felt good ordering something with good reviews from what could be the last standing manufacture in the US and keeping a few folks employed.

Smaller than I expected which is a good thing! from Minot, ND on 03/03/2015 – Verified Buyer
Our summers are not long here in ND but sometimes they can get hot! When I purchased my house in 2013, I was OK with the fact it didn't have A/C. It was brand new construction and honestly, has never gotten above 80 degrees even on our hottest days. But fast forward to this summer, now I have a new roommate, a 10 lb. dog who has diabetes and it is important that the temperature in the house stay as regulated as possible. The main room in my house which consists of the kitchen, living room, and dining room is just shy of 600 sq. feet and I thought this would be a great option to use vs. investing the $5000 a heating and air conditioning company quoted my for adding A/C. I'm rating this purely on size at this point, but I'm excited to see what it will do!

Loud but reliable from Arlington, MA on 11/18/2014 – Verified Buyer
The only windows in our bedroom were above the bed or near the porch where a window unit would obstruct traffic. This was a good solution. It cools the room quickly and could easily cool a much larger space. The only con is that it is a little loud while I'm sleeping so it took a couple nights to get used to and that the exhaust hose to the window doesn't stay in place if bumped on accident. When left alone, it's fine, but just opening our heavy thermal/light blocking curtain could sometimes bump it loose. Powerful, easy to maintain exhaust is easy to make loose

This Rally Works! from LARKSPUR, CA on 05/04/2014 – Verified Buyer
I highly recommend this portable air conditioner. It really saved me during an unusually hot period. It works best in 400 sq. ft. (or less). at least that is how I used it. It is perfect for a bedroom or den. There is absolutely no water leakage. At times, I ran it day & night with no problem. That was last summer. I am using it again this year with no problems. It works great. Do not hesitate to buy this product.

"Hello, does this have a warranty? If so, how long is it? Regards, Tom" — Tom
"Hi Tom, these air conditioners have a 1 year warranty."
    — Nate from Wayfair
"How do you drain the water from the unit?" — Elvis
"Hello Elvis, it actually has a self evaporative system that exhausts most of the condensate water, minimizing your need to empty the internal bucket. The internal bucket is easily accessible from the back of the unit, and depending on the humidity of your room, should be emptied accordingly."
    — Joe from Wayfair
"Hi, is this air conditioning unit recommended to be equipped in the windows?" — Betty
"Hi Betty, the air conditioning unit is a portable unit and therefore it is not recommended to be installed in windows."

"Hi, does the Amico 11,000 BTU portable air conditioner automatically shut off when the water bucket is full?" — Roger
