We needed to replace the light over an existing medicine cabinet. This fixture can be installed with the lights either facing up or down. The shade extends 8" from the wall, so if you are planning to mount the lights in the down position above a cabinet, you need to make sure that bottom of the circuit box is at least 10" above the cabinet door swing. We mounted the lights facing up because we didn't have enough clearance to mount the lights down, and we get ample lighting bouncing off the ceiling to illuminate the mirror for shaving and makeup. A licensed electrician installed the fixture for us, but it could be installed by any novice who remembers to turn off the power to the circuit."..."  Read more

We purchased this light to replace the unattractive cheap vanity light that had been in our downstairs powder room since the house was built 6 years ago. I wished we had replaced it sooner. This light looks terrific and brightens up the room. The colors really draw the eye to the lamp. You should use frosted bulbs for less glare, though. Also, I sealed areas between the wall and glass with tape to block light from escaping from behind.
