I bought lamp mainly 6 months ago to use for a small l-shaped hallway to use it instead of the ceiling light because when that light goes out, Ill never be able to reach it to replace it even with my step ladder. Ive also been using this lamp for extra light when needed for my lap top which is easy to pick up and place by the table. In fact, the outlet I use is in back of the table, and I also have it plugged into an extension cord which hangs over a bookcase. For my purposes, it would be much better if the lamp had the turn on button, or a switch, on the lamp post instead of on the cord. Its supposed to be stepped on to turn on the lamp. For me, I have to go back and forth to turn on the lamp. What I will say is that it was a snap to put it together although I had trouble putting in the bulb. All and all, it is a good little lamp. I love the design and silhouette of this lamp. I bought the clear one. It goes well with my mid-century modern furniture. However, I can only give this lamp a 4 out of 5 stars. As the other reviewer had pointed out, the bright orange light inside the dimmer switch stays on 24/7 even though the lamp is completely turned off. Since the dimmer switch is clear, the orange light (the size of a raisin) is very noticeable and it flickers continuously. I am worried that the orange light will eventually burn out, so I am tempted to just unplug my lamp when it is not in use. I am curious to hear if others are having the same issue, or maybe it is a non-issue."..."  Read more

I love this lamp, but I have to warn you, it's very big. My friend actually nicknamed this lamp, the Elephant lamp due to its 7 ft stature. That being said, it gives off a wonderful light and can add mood lighting to an entire room. I do not suggest you get "cool day light" light bulbs as my roommate originally did, this will cause an eerie/alien blue glow to take over the room. It is a little counterintuitive to have a foot pedal on such a large lamp, its behind our sofa, so it's hard to turn on.
