I needed sofa lamps that I could also use as reading lamps in a traditional room. These are wonderful. The lamps are adjustable which allow you to position them for non glare reading. The shade is off white which allows the light to come through and is much more subtle than white. You can use a 150 watt 3 way bulb rather than the 100 watt bulb called for in most lamps. I got this lamp for a higher price at Lamps Plus. In fact, I got two of them. This is a great price! Wish I had seen it sooner. I recommend having another person with you during assembly, because it is very tricky to do by yourself, although it can be done with difficulty. I managed to do it, and I am absolutely in love with the lamp. It looks great from several angles, and it looks as good turned off as turned on. If the arms dont line up the way you want them, you can move them into place slightly. It makes plenty of light, too. All three lights turn on at the same time. No ability to turn on a combination of them. It presents a modern chrome look but the paper shades soften the effect, an enjoyable contrast."..." Read more

This lamp takes up to a 100 watt bulb - which can be dimmed via the switch in the fixture. I might have preferred a standard 3-way switch and the ability to use a 50/100/150 bulb, but I have very high ceilings. The lamp body is acrylic, so it's light.
