I bought lamp mainly 6 months ago to use for a small l-shaped hallway to use it instead of the ceiling light because when that light goes out, Ill never be able to reach it to replace it even with my step ladder. Ive also been using this lamp for extra light when needed for my lap top which is easy to pick up and place by the table. In fact, the outlet I use is in back of the table, and I also have it plugged into an extension cord which hangs over a bookcase. For my purposes, it would be much better if the lamp had the turn on button, or a switch, on the lamp post instead of on the cord. Its supposed to be stepped on to turn on the lamp. For me, I have to go back and forth to turn on the lamp. What I will say is that it was a snap to put it together although I had trouble putting in the bulb. All and all, it is a good little lamp. I'm very pleased with this lamp. It looks expensive and classy. I saw some reviews that mentioned stains on the shade...my shade was completely wrapped and spotless. Each of the four parts easily slide into each other and lock into place. Reading the instructions to put the lamp shade and the light defuser together made that a lot easier. The defuser really adds to the look of the lamp and causes the light to not be so harsh. This lamp actually holds TWO 100 watt bulbs, not one like the listing said. I love that I can light up my whole room. If I want a dimmer light, I unscrew one of the bulbs which is easy to reach from the top of the lamp shade. The on-off switch is a push button on the floor and you just step on it...you don't have to bend down. High quality lamp, well worth the price!"..."  Read more

I love torchere lamps. But as I get older, I seem to need brighter lights in my living room so I can read and use my computer without squinting. So I bought some extra bright bulbs. My old torchere lamp was not rated high enough for the extra watts of my new bulbs and I was afraid I would start a fire. Not good. I needed a torchere lamp to fit these extra bright bulbs. This Mystere floor lamp was exactly what I needed! It is very attractive. I especially like the frosted glass bowl. It allows just the right amount of light to diffuse through it to capatilize on all that strong light, but softens the light enough so it produces no bright glare.
